PC3200 / Dell Dimension 8300 PC3200 RAM question

Ok, what's the difference between the "Dell" compatible Kingston memory @ $443

Shouldn't the above item @ $119 work just fine in my system (which already has 2 256MB PC3200 chips)?



What's the benefit to paying for the more expensive Dell compatible memory?

you'd think so! but you never know, it'd be just like dell to make you buy the ram they choose. I would write to the ram company (Kingston right?) and see what they have to say. My ram isn't on my mobos QVL, but I wrote to PDP and they told me it would work fine ..... and it does! 🙂

I'd write Kingston or Crucial, because I don't know off-hand and I can't check for you (I would if my parents' Dell used DDR instead of RDRAM). Dell is known to use proprietary crap sometimes, but it could also just be marketing.

Thanks! And a whole hell of a lot cheaper than the Kingston "Dell Certified" RAM. I'll probably go with the Crucial just to be safe.
