Last night I changed out my 1x512 2x256 generic pc2100 memory for 2x512 pc3200 Corsair value select. I did a before and after 3dmark2003 and only saw an improvement of 100pts (4100->4200). I'm using an Asus p4p800se (465 chipset) motherboard and my cpu has a 800mhz fsb. The new memory modules are installed in slots 0,3.

Is this a normal gain? I was hoping for a fairly noticeable improvement, maybe 500-1000pt gain. It looks like I don't have to configure the BIOS in any way. Am I missing something?

Yeah, try a mem bench like winrar or the one in Sissoft Sandra

Guess I didn't notice it not testing that part of the system. So what effect would I see in a game if I dropped down to slower system memory since 1gif+ seems to be the norm for gaming?

Ummm.. not exactly sure what you mean (1gif+ ??)

I play FSP games. Generally I find 1 gig best for quick loading & reloading times and general navigation around teh in-game menu. I don't find any effect on frames per second.

Not much effect on my system from either slower timings or reduced mhz. (ex 333mhz or 400mhz) in FPS games either.

However, you have Intel, and I think you're crippling it with PC 2100 (266mhz) ram. You need the PC3200 (400mhz) to take advantage of you CPU's FSB speed of 200 (quad pumped to 800mhz)

Not exactly sure what you mean by FSP games. Is that some kind of handheld? lol

Aside from the warranty, reliability, and stability, why do you use the memory you do?

Ah hell, nevermind... I can see where this is all going.
