PC2700 question

Getting another 256mb but this time PC2700. I am currently overclocking my PC2100 to PC2700 and of course after up-ing the FSB from 133 to 166 my PC2100 is now saying its PC2700 at post. Well if I was to take it out and put my new stick of PC2700 in and put the FSB back to 133 would the BIOS detect it as PC2100 or PC2700? Does the FSB have to be at 166 before it shows PC2700?

sounds like the BIOS is assuming a ram type based upon FSB speed.

Probably going to behave exactly the same for either stick at a given setting.

If your motherboard is set to read the SPD, then the memory should run at whatever highest speed it's rated for. Some boards may have "Auto" as a setting as well, with the Auto setting meaning to run the memory at the same speed as the FSB if the memory SPD says it's rated at least that high. Other boards may use Auto as an indicator to use the SPD settings. Check your manual to be sure.

There's little reason to use PC2700 if your Athlon's bus is set to 133MHz anyway, so you're not going to see much performance loss if you just run it all at PC2100.

Well I am running my 1600+ at 2100+ so staying at 133FSB is a bit of a performance hit I think. Anyway reason I was asking is I am getting the new stick of PC2700 and just wanted to make sure it was PC2700(buying off the forums).

Just snag the part number off one of the ICs and go to the Mfgr. website and look it up.

Only way I know to be certain.

True, what better way to find out!

Now all you have to do is get your hands on that stick o memory that you dont have yet
