pc2700 memory downward compatible?

i have an ecs motherboard that accepts pc2100 ad pc1600. will pc2700 memory chips work on my motherboard? are pc2700 memory chips downward compatible with pc2100 m/b?

As far as I know, higher speed memory modules are easily downgradable to lower speed, so your pc2700 will work fine at pc2100 speed.

Yes, no worries. PC2700 (166MHz) will run just fine at PC2100 (133MHz) speeds. Just like PC133 will run at PC100 speeds. Going down is always a definite. Going UP is a shot in the dark.

The best thing to do is buy something like PC2700 or more.. even if you only need less... it's great to have something that is future compatible with higher speeds. when i first got my P4 setup I was using PC2700 even though I really didn't even need more than PC1600!! but for the price difference it's very silly to not get something faster, plus, PC2700 and up is necessary for overclocking thesedays. infact i am going even faster and getting some PC3500 later this week.
