im in the process of building a system where i will be doing some moderate overclocking (no higher than 150 fsb) - would it be better to pick up a high quality stick of pc2100 or a generic stick of pc2700 ddr ram??? Any opinions?

i would say a brand name pc2700.... and then get a ddr333 motherboard.

right, but thats a lot more expensive - the above options i listed are pretty close in price - and i already have a ddr266 mobo (free from good people at AMD and Nvidia) 😀 Any reccomendation between those two choices?

what are the specs and how generic, is this pc2700 ddr sdram?

and by quality pc2100 ddr sdram, you mean crucail, mushkin, etc.. right?

generic pc2700 = the cheapest stuff pricewatch vendors can scrape up

quality pc2700 = name brand (crucial, mushkin, etc)

id go with the pc2100 ddr. i have my Athlon XP 1700+ overclocked to 1.628Ghz (11 x 148fsb) and runs fine with fastest memory settings with the 512MB PC2100 ddr crucial stick in my system. i can goto 150fsb but anything past 148fsb i have to bump the vcore alot just for the measly 30Mhz.. wasnt worth it imo.

no point in taking a risk on generic pc2700 not knowing the quality of the ram.
