PC133 VS. PC100 RAM

I have an Abit KT7 board with 2 sticks of PC100 and 1 stick of PC133. If I decide to overclock the bus up to 133, would it make a big difference if I decided to stick with the PC100 that I have in there? Would it hurt anything?

Also, is there a noticeable speed difference in the two that you guys have found out?

Thanks in advance.

Equally clocked memory will perform identically.

PC133 running at 100 MHz will perform identically to PC100 running at 100 MHz. PC100 at 133 will perform identically to PC133 @ 133.

However...

There is no guarantee, & it's rather unlikely, that your PC100 RAM will work at 133 MHz (especially not CAS2). If it will work, you won't see any performance boost by going to PC133.

But if you want to have guaranteed 133 MHz out of your memory, & the possibility of going higher, sell the PC100 & get some decent PC133.

actually, it's pretty likely that your pc100 will run at pc133 CL3...

however, it's also like that your pc133 will run CL2...so if u want to run CL2, u'll have to ditch th Pc100...is it worth it?...hell no...

stick to CL3 and use your pc100 dimms if u can...if they don't work and u still want pc133, sell your pc100 and get some cheap pc133 and run it at CL2...

or just leave it...pc100 CL2 overclocked isn't bad...

I will try to stick with the PC100 that I have and see what happens. I guess if I see smoke coming out of my case when I power it up, I will know that I need to get some PC133. hehe :0

It won't smoke. If you PC100 can't do 133 it's not going to damage it or anything, your computer will just lock up a lot until you replace the PC100 w/ PC133 (or just take them out until some more PC133 gets there 🙂).

how are you running 3 chips on one board? according to mrdudeman, you can only use 2 of the three slots, and the other one is just there.

is that correct?

crazychicken,

I also have an Abit KT7 (mine is raid) and my 3 slots are filled,128,128,64.

And it runs very well with the 3 slots filled.

Setup as 133 Fast in bios With 4 way interleave all is fine
