PC won't turn on unless I hit mobo power

My computer won't turn on when I hit the case power or reset buttons. I have to open the case and his the power button on my mobo which is either red or off and when I hit it, it turn the power button on for the mobo. The second time I hit it is when it turns my PC on. This has only happened recently and I believe it might be from leaving my PC unattended and it going into sleep mode; it has made my PC act funny since day 1.

You didn't give us the make and model of your motherboard. Most boards don't have a mechanical power or reset switch. If yours does, it may be acting as a resettable fuse that trips over time.

Have you checked the motherboard and CPU temps? Have you checked the "System Health" page in your BIOS for settings for temperature etc. that would cause the system to shutdown?

Since you've had this problem since day one, if it isn't a setting in the BIOS, it suggests either the switch/fuse is faulty or some other component is causing the system to draw current near the trip threshold for the fuse. If it isn't a plug in component (RAM, vid card, etc.), it could be a component on the board, itself, such as a semiconductor, capacitor, etc.

If the board is still under warranty, I'd suggest contacting the maker's tech support for an RMA.

Are you positive that you have the lead that goes to your power switch set up correctly? Try taking a screwdriver and shorting the two pins that go to the power switch and see if it works, if so it could mean that your power switch is faulty. When those two pins are bridged it sends a signal to the power supply to start the system.
