Hi, i just received an old P3 from someone to try to fix. When I try to turn it on, I get nothing. the power LED on the motherboard is lit and ive tried other working psu's and It still will not boot up. Ive looked at the switch and have tried other power switches and that does not seem to be the case either. Any ideas? thanks!

Are you sure that the power switch is plugged in correctly into the motherboard. Sometimes you just have to plug in the switch in the opposite way on the motherboard. The only other thing it could be is a bad motherboard. Have you tried a different motherboard.

no on the new motherboard, i dont have any this old to test. I know the psu is okay and it seems like normal but it just wont turn on. Ive tried contacting the power switch pins too and it still will not start up. I guess it must be the board?

It can be the board, it can also be the CPU, and I have had a few occasions where a bad Hard drive was keeping an otherwise good PC from booting. In those cases, just unplugging the power lead from the hard drive was enough to get it booting. You havent really ruled out the MB, or CPU unless you can swap one or other with a known good part.
