Ok,here's the situation.
A friend of mine at work wanted me to look at her ancient Gateway(500mhz 64RAM etc) and get it working right. She siad it had been sitting in a closet for several months and she wanted to get it up and running for her young daughter to dabble around on.
So I get the machine home, plug it up,hit the power.....nothing.After checking for loose wires and changing outlets I figured the PS died.So I used a 250W PS from a Compaq case and tried it.Plugged everything up,hit the power....nothing.By this time I'm thinking something is up with the mobo because I know for a fact that my PS works.
Once again,I tinker in the case.Except this time I unplug and reconnect the P1 connector...out of nowhere the machine turns on(w/o pressing the button either).I was able to turn the machine on and off fine after this(via the button). However,if I unplugged the power cable from the wall or from the PS,and reconnected them...it wouldn't power-on again🙁
This is bizarre, and annoying because this basiclly means she has to "shock" the mobo everytime she wants to use the damn thing after unplugging it.(By shock I mean unplugging and reconnecting a live P1 connector)And obviously her daughter isn't gonna dig that...
So is there any advice for this thing? Is the mobo whacked?Any tips?
Any help is appreciated🙂
