PC won't power up after failed BIOS update

I built this PC last x-mas for my nephew & it has worked perfectly until this past weekend.

I hadn't updated the BIOS since building the system, so I decided to finally get around to it, & lo & behold the update failed. So, the next time I booted up, it just would spin up the case & CPU fans for 5 seconds, then shut down for 5 seconds, turn on for 5 seconds, etc... I never got any signal to the monitor, though the keyboard lights come on.

I tried clearing the CMOS as instructed in the motherboard's manual, but no change. Then I completely disassembled the machine & re-assembled it, (clearing CMOS again) but still no change. Before I start buying random components, I would like some ideas of things I haven't tried, & then perhaps the most likely culprit for this issue. (No one I've talked to has ever heard of this problem, let alone experienced it!) Would it be worth it to try ASUS customer service? (I've heard many bad things about them....)

My software:
Vista Ultimate x64 SP1
AVG 8.0

My hardware:

Antec 900
ASUS P5KC
Intel Core 2 Duo E6850 (stock)
Sapphire Radeon HD 3870 (stock)
4 GB G.Skill DDR2 800 PC2 6400
Xion Supernova 800W PS
2x 320GB SATA HDs

Please help!

Your going to have to reflash the bios.
You can try booting it with a pci video card if you have one. That would allow you to see the recovery instructions if there are any. The other thing is remove all but the cpu and memory and connect a floppy and see if it looks for a floppy when you turn it on. If it does then follow the instructions here:
http://www.biosman.com/biosrecovery.html

If that fails the only thing you can do is send the board back to Asus.
It used to be that you could pull the bios chip out of the socket and replace it with a good one. Now though MB makers have decided it isn't worth spending 5 cents on a socket.

I've got a couple dead MB in the closet now. I need to desolder the chips and replace them, just haven't gotten round to it.

Please reply back if the Asus bios utility actually works to recover the bios, the gigabyte one does not.
It is always rough troubleshooting when you can't even get a display.

Asus Crash Free BIOS has worked once for me on my current P5K Deluxe. I have a P5N32-E SLI in a box which it did not work on.

Just throw the CD that comes with your motherboard in and try to start the PC, hopefully it will notice the corrupted BIOS and grab the one on the CD and reflash it.

Thanks for the welcome!

I've tried putting the CD in, but that didn't work. I tried putting the BIOS on a USB flash drive & still, no dice. The system just doesn't seem to stay on long enough to even search for a clean BIOS, let alone flash it. I'll try locating a floppy drive & try that next. Thanks for all the suggestions!
