Hey all, need some advice.

So, I got home tonight and my gaming machine won't boot up. I don't get any beeps on boot (usually one at POST), the cpu fan spins, the asus mobo light shows blue with the PSU turned on and red with the machine turned on but no video signal. At first I thought it was the monitor but I'm using it right now with the my old machine. The machine just sits there, fans spinning but nothing. Reset switch does nothing and only thing that shuts it down is turning off the switch at the PSU.

Since I'm hearing no beep codes, it seems like its a mobo issue. Am I missing something? Might be video but a cmos reset, dropping down to 2gb ram did nothing. Machine just sits there spinning fans.

System: Asus P5B deluxe, xfx 7950GT video, 4 GB ram, winXP.\

TIA

My first thought is motherboard. However, if there's a problem with your power supply, then that can cause some funky results, as well. You didn't have any performance issues before?

Eh, it I think it usually just spontaneously happens. But my bet is on either Motherboard or PSU.

Yeah, gonna see if the machine Posts/beeps with no ram installed.

Boot it outside the case with essentials, 1 stick of ram, gpu, etc. If it still does that, it could be a shorted mobo so check for blown transistors/capacitors. If it still doesn't work, swap out the PSU and test. Test any other components separately on a working system if you think something else is causing hte problem. Sounds like RAM though...I had 4 sticks of OCZ come DOA before

Mini thread necro.

Finally have time to work on the system, no post with no ram installed. Fans just spin, asus light turns on. My thought is PSU or mobo. Mobo looks ok with a quick glance so, probably going to just get a psu tester first.

Hmm so new info...

In preperation for testing and replacing the PSU, I figured I'd fire it up one more time. All parts are in, the only thing not hooked up was a monitor. It stalled a bit on power on but as usual the fans spin, mobo lights up but I got 3 quick beeps. With a monitor hooked up it goes back to what it was doing earlier... just spinning fans, case power light doesnt come on and no post codes, no signal on monitor.

So, to test it again, I unhooked monitor (different one from original issues 2 weeks ago) and boom, same post code beeps, case power light comes on (lian li pc65) and it even lets me shut the system down from the power button, not the switch on the PSU. Am I wrong in thinking this is a dead video card?

TIA
