I have an IBM thinkcentre and an epson rx500 printer. It wont boot when the printer is turned on. I think it has something to do with the card readers and trying to boot from them. It gets to the splash screen then hangs. Any ideas other than bios update. I don't think driver related, cause it never gets to windows. Searched google but didn't find anything useful.

Any help is much appreciated thanks,

EDIT: Word from Epson is:
Thank you for contacting the Epson Connection.

This issue has been reported on the Dell Dimension 4500c and the Sony Vaio
RX series of computers, though it may also occur on some other computers.
When the BIOS of these computers sends the query during bootup to the Epson
device, the query is ignored by the Epson product which causes the computer
to hang during its boot. This problem has been reported on some Dell 4500
computer systems using the Phoenix BIOS PLUS v.1.10 A06 ROM chip and on
some Sony Vaio RX systems using the Award Medallion BIOS v.6.0 ROM chip.
The best thing we can suggest to do would be to contact your computer
vendor for a possible update\resolution for this issue.

As a workaround, disconnect the unit from the computer and turn it off.
Reboot the computer, then reconnect the unit to the computerâ??s USB port and
power it back on. This will allow for normal operation of both your
computer and your product.:frown:

Only thing is, is that I don't have to disconnect the usb, all I have to do is shut the printer off. Good thing I guess.

its connected via usb? can you go in bios and specify correct boot order. 1st cdrom, 2nd HDD for example? it is stopping at the mobo's splash screen, right? not the windows splash screen?

I have seen this on some older machines, and never found a way to fix it. Bios seems to look to USB no matter what the specified boot order is.

Thanks for replies, I went to the bios, it is kind of limited in what it will let you do. The first boot order is to network and no way to change that. Yes it is stopping at the mobo's splash screen. I'm kind of leaning towards what Jack says. Oh well, thanks

Yes, true.
It is a board bios issue. Try plugging it in after OS bootup. If it works after OS booted, then you know it is a bios issue. :)

No can do :( thanks

marulee: it does boot every time into widows if the printer is off. It will will proceed to boot if I turn the printer off while the splash screen is hung.

Guess I'll see if IBM\Lenovo has a bios update.

Thanks guys
