The machine could probably play reasonably well on the web under Win98 SE IF you have all the drivers for the hardware. It would run even better if you maxed out the RAM and upgraded the CPU to compatible P4 (if possible). However, given the price of a decent. complete entry level system and the high price of older RAM (probably SD-RAM), it may not be worth cost of the parts, let alone the value of your time to set it up.

The two best possible uses for the machine, itself, would be as a system to run dedicated DOS or Linux tasks like NC machine control or as a donation as a tax write off.

Sorry it didn't work for you. You could try Damn Small Linux(DSL). That'll easily fit on a 128mb drive. It might be a little spartan for a daily driver, but it might be fun for you to play with. It's got amazing functionality for it's tiny size(they're obligated by philosophy to keep the ISO under 50mb)

But I have Compaq notebook AMD K6-333 with 160MB max comes with Windows 98SE and Sygate firewall do you think it is safe?

No, I don't think it's safe. Win98 was never truly securable to start with, and it hasn't been getting security updates for years.

My wife's friend gave me a Celeron 433 with Windows 98 on it to "fix".

Be strong!!!
Put your foot down, and like Nancy Reagan says, "just say no !!!".
For years I screwed with friends of friends old outdated worthless
computers. WAY more trouble and stress than its worth.
And in the end, the owners are unwilling to put any money into it.
Usually the pc needs updated hardware, more memory or something costing $$$.
And updating outdated pc's costs three times as much. Finding memory or
cards for old pc's costs a lot, if even possible.
The owners, you will find, will not spend the money.
Its like trying to update an old model-T ford with air bags and the motor to
go 120 mpg. WHY???

Just say no, and send them to wally worlds PC dept.
