Ok, Madden 2004 looks like it's coming from another planet. After reading about Owner Mode, I'm ready to wet my pants. Anyway, I'm curious as to which system would be best to purchase it for when it comes out. I know that Xbox will not offer online Madden gaming this year. So that probably eliminates it. But I hear its' graphics are the best for sports games.

I should also mention that I've fallen a little out of the game loop a bit the last few years (not that I don't care, just broke :) ). I've never played an Xbox or PS2 other than a quick pass at Best Buy. I only have a PS1 and a decent PC right now So I'd have to go out and get a console. If any of you guys have played previous Maddens on any or all of these systems....or could add some insight as to which would be my best option..... I'd certainly be interested in your take. Thanks.

EDIT: I forgot to ask another question. If I go the PC route, what would be a good controller to have?? Right now, I've got a generic Microsoft Sidewinder that's ok. But I'd like something better. Thanks again!!

The best all around package will be PC. XBOX will not have online play but feature better graphics and a custom soundtrack option (to avoid the terrible song list this year). PS2 will have decent graphics, offer online play but no custom soundtrack. PC will offer all though.

I'll get the PS2 version because my TV is larger than my monitor.

Get the PC version. Because on XBox, there's two better football games ahead of it, and PS2 is just a pitful aging system with inferior graphics.
Might as well get the PC version if Madden is your game, at least you can modify it when you realize how sucky the gameplay is. ;)

Keep in mind, if ya get it on PS2, your PS1 games will be backwards compatible. Even though PS2 is pitiful and aging ;)

Someone hasn't seen the GT4 screenies :p

I actually prefer Madden... But I choose NFL2k(x) because Madden does not offer online play for the Xbox. :|

But as for the original question, that's a very hard one to answer. If you don't have a console yet, I'd suggest getting an Xbox and NFL2k4. If you must have Madden, then go for the PS2. The last PC Madden that I owned was 2002 (and almost every previous year). And that will be THE LAST PC MADDEN that I do own. Too buggy, gameplay wasn't smooth, EA was very slow to fix the problems, etc...

Sports gaming is just better on a console, imho.

That's Madden 2003 at 1280x960@100Hz with 6xAA, 16xAF, and Truform enabled. Look at the detail in the reflections of his helmet.

I played the Xbox version, and I have to say that I didn't like it. I don't think the graphics were as nice. I would get it for PC.

As for controllers, I use the Gravis Gamepad Pro. You don't really need anything else, unless you want force feedback.

I agree that the hi-res is very nice, as is the AA and Truform.

However, imho, the textures are incredibly flat and lack detail compared to the Xbox version.

And.. I don't know... There's just something more appealing (to me) about sitting on my couch in front of my 32" TV to play football (in 5.1 DD), instead of hunched over my desk. *shrugs* Maybe it's just me.

Well, if I had a nice HT setup, I might agree, but I have an old 26"-er with built in speakers and I live in an apartment so I can't crank it up. With Madden I can lounge back infront of the AC and play. :)
