hi all,

Its been really helpful reading your post.. like in operating system, gaming etc..

i have been using linux for few months now. Its been long time since i tried some games on windows. (the last one was NFS carbon, WoW2, quake, unreal, etc..).

Now i would like to move to windows and check in some games. please suggest me some upgrades for my pc.

my current configuration

amd x2 3600
nvidia 7200
1 gb ddr2 ram(planning to upgrade to 2 gb)
17"samsung
asus motherboard m2v-tvm.

thanks,
sur

i would play
call of duty 4(worked fine with my samtron 15" in low resolution),
GTA, etc... and my budget is around 350-400$

Keeping the motherboard, check and see what the compatibility is in terms of CPUs. If it's an AM2+ board, you could get pretty much any modern X2 or Phenom and upgrade your memory. I suggest looking at the 5000+ BE if you plan on overclocking. If not, shoot for a chip in the 2.6 to 3.2ghz range.

The main bottleneck in your system is video. I recommend an AMD 4850 or 4870 card.

A slightly faster CPU, 2 to 4GB of memory in dual channel and a 4850 or 4870 would be a nice gaming rig, for sure.

If you find yourself needing to upgrade the mobo, I recommend a 780G chipset. Throw in a second video card for hybrid crossfire and you'll be rocking.

thanks all for the reply... I think i would better go with nerp...

But what if I upgrade my processor.. my old processor(3600 x2) will go waste..
Is there any way it could be used along with the new one (5000+)..
I already have 2 Pentium III processor just sleeping well 🙂 can it be used in any way...
