pc trouble

When i turn my pc on. Nothing comes on the monitor. It gets power just no monitor.
Then after i restart it multiple times it will start up.
It also gets sluggish after it tuns on.
But i only notice it gettting slow after i install an 80 gig HD.
The 3 hds do get hot. I don't know if heat has anything to do with it.

When i tried to turn it on today in the morning it wouldn't come on but then a few minutes later it would turn on.
Can anyone help?
 
I wonder if you're overloading your power supply. What brand/model of power supply is it, and what components are in your system? Welcome to the Forums 🙂
 
Your power supply may not be able to supply enough current to run three hard drives and the other peripherals you have. Try disconnecting the one or two drives that don't have your boot info (C:). Since this is happening even before the machine starts to boot, you could even disconnect all the drives, just to see if that helps. If you want to test this further, stick a bootable floppy into the A: drive.

Do you have any other current hogs in your system, such as one of the newer, very fast vid cards?
 
i have a deer power supply it is 300 watts
model number is DR-A300ATX
The systyem is running 3 hard drives
athlon 900 mhz processor
geforce 4 ti 4200
network card
creative sound blaster live value.

i have a fujitsu mpf3102AT it is a 10 gigabyte HD don't now anything about this one i think it runs at ata 33
I also have a western digital WD400BB it is a 40 gigabyte hd this one i think ones at 5400 rpm ata 100
i also have a WD800JB it is a 80 gigabyte hd that runs at 7200 rpm ata 100
 
The general consensus is that Deer power supplies are not very good. I recommend picking up an Antec TruePower330 or an Enermax, Enlight or Sparkle Power unit in the 350W area. If you're looking for a reputable online store, try Newegg. Hope that helps! 🙂
 
Even if your power supply really makes 300 watts, that's marginal for your setup. Sounds like it's time for a better one.

No, they aren't.. I had one in one of our shop machines literally explode with a huge puff of smoke coming out the back. Out of three machines we had built for the shop, ALL three had DEER psu's and all have blown.
 
well i took it too a local computer store. And he said it had a bad power supply and replaced it with a Qmax 300 watt. He said 300 watts is plenty.

I actually had a Deer PS fry one of my mobos....one of the power wires melted, and burned the ATX socket on the mobo beyond repair.

Ehh, I've never heard of that brand before. That brand is not on AMD's approved power supply manufacturer list.

Yeouch....Sorry to hear that. I must have been extremely lucky to have those damn things not fry anything.
 
The new power supply didn't fix the problem and now it keeps trying to boot from the cdrom drive even thought it is set to boot from the hard drive
 
Change the battery on the motherboard. It sounds like your cmos isin't loading properly probably due to a weak battery.
You can get them at any drug store.
 
it is fixed now the motherboard was bad the compasitors on the motherboard were bulging they look like they were going to pop.
 
I am still having trouble it is running slow.
I get about 5090 3dmarks in 3dmark2001se
i have a geforce 4 ti 4200 128 megs of ddr
256 megs of pc133
i have a celeron 1.8 ghz
and the motherboard is a ecs P4VMM2 it has intergrated sound and video on board sound and video are disabled
i also have a sound blaster live value.
and when i play some games it lags.
Can anyone help?
