I am building my new PC soon and it will have at least an 8800gts. I will have a normal monitor, but from time to time I might want to hook it up to my 50" samsung dlp (720p). What is the best connection I can use? I have HDMI inputs, as well as a pc input. What cabling do I need? Thanks all!
 
Your best bet would be HDMI. You might be able to find 8800 with an HDMI output, or you could use a DVI > HDMI converter/cable. You will more than likely have to run seperate sound cables unless you buy an ATI2900xt, which has sound input ( I am not aware of an nvidia cards that do this). Also if you plan on watching HD-DVD or BLU-RAY, you might want to find a card with HDCP keys (at least if you want to use HDMI or DVI).
 
Thanks I will make sure I get an HDCP compliant card. I will just use the optical out that is built into the motherboard. Thanks for all of the help
 
HDMI/DVI > VGA > Component > S-Video > composite/RCA.

So yeah, all you need is a DVI to HDMI cable (one end will have DVI-D, the other HDMI) + optical sound cable & you're set, since any video card 8800 GTS or higher has HDCP support.
 
Many of the folks at avsforum are actually using the D-Sub/VGA connector on the Samsung sets. Many can't tell a difference in picture quality, of course YMMV. One nice thing about this route for now is you will not have to worry about any HDCP handshaking issues.
