PC to receiver sound problems

ok...so I was bored and I went out to radio shack and I got a y-splitter or something (don't know much about sound at all) and I hooked up one end with my receiver and I'm only getting 2 speakers going (4 total..no sub) it's comming out of the left side speakers...the right sides produce no sound at all....however if I put in a movie or put on the tv...all 4 speakers play...my sound card is on-board sound...whuich sux lol....I suppose this is the problem...or is there something I'm missing?

first you could have bought the wrong wire (ie one that only takes one channel of audio and splits it) though that's probably not the first of your worries.

it sounds like you plugged it in to both of the left channel inputs for front and rear (they are probably both the same colour). second to get 4 channel audio you either have to run Pro Logic with the 2 channels running to the reciever, or you need to have a rear speaker output from your soundcard running to the rear speaker input on the reciever..

it's very simple. any dummy can do it.. I learned this stuff when I was like 6 or so..
