PC to Mac Network Connection

Friend has a Powerbook G4 that he wants to connect to his PC to grab some files off of. He said he's done it before where he went somewhere and entered the IP address then his computer showed up and he could get the files. I'm not that great at networking to begin with, I can do the basics on a Mac and the basics on a PC, but when it comes to cross-platform, I have no clue what to do. Any help is appreciated.

Edit: I should add that his PC uses a wireless PCI card, but can also be hardwired, and the same is true for his Powerbook.

OK, I live in a world of duality 😉

OK, so he wants to just download of a Windows machine and not share his stuff with Windows boxes? Easy... In the Finder select the "Go" Menu and "Connect To Server" (command + k), then type in the IP adress of the machine he wants to download from (IP adress works better than actual Name of the machine), he should then be prompted for the hosts password and then presented with a pulldown menu of the aailable shares. Select one and it is mounted on the desktop and can now be used as a any regular disk.

Necessary for this to work are standard things such as a correct IP adress and so forth on both machines. The stuff you would be looking for is in the Networking Pane in System Preferences (kinda obvious really...)
