pc tht hangs!!

hi.. i'm using a pentium 4 2.6 pc equipped with 512 ram 60 gig of harddisk space and a 128mb geforce4 ti4200 graphic card.. lately, my pc starts to hang whenever i'm using it regardless of any activity such as surfing or even when i'm playing games.. this has never happened before and i do not knoe the reason why.. when it hangs, there would be a long beep n there's nutin i can do but restart.. plz help as its startin to get on my nerves! thanks in advance
 
two possible causes;

1. overheating due to fan failure or blocked vents. try switching the system on with the cover removed and check if all the fans appear to be running (use a torch if necessary)

2. software corruption. assuming your using windows XP(?) - try running spyware / malware and virus scans (Link to Schadenfroh's spyware removal guide)

 
could it be due to bad memory? because this only happens sometimes and not all the time if i'm doing normal activities but it happens very often when i'm playing games such as half life 2.. i used to play other games before but it used to be fine
