Hello guys, i just bought a new pc and i have the following problem.

Specs:

4,6amd AM2 x2 dual core
2gig ram 667
7900gtx 512
Asus m2n sli
250gig sam

I installed windows normally and wanted to try out some games do see how it would run.
I tried need for speed most wanted, Titan quest and far cry.

At start on nfsmw and titan i would see some slowdowns but in random times not when like many monsters or graphics would gather up, so i knew it was not at i had reached the video cards limit. I also tried to reduce the graphics to low and still i would see these slowdowns.

I made some programs stop starting up at start up like the soundmax program from the mobo and other program that were of no use.
This fixed the problem a bit and i would seldomly see slowdowns. Also checked the temperatures but everything sees fine. This i did yesterday.

Today when i tried to play nfsmw and farcry, both games had like a speed bost, when i was moving around in both games everything looked as if it was put on fast forward.

I going to format it when i get home, dont know if that will fix it but still i dont think something like this should be happening and ive never encountered a similar thing.

Another thing that might help is i see sometimes that my harddrive seems to lag just a little bit, dont know if that is a problem or causes anything of this...

Anyone know what this could be?
Thank you very much for your time and help :)

I experienced the speed boost problem in Madden 07. There is an XP dual core hotfix out there from Microsoft that corrects problems with AMD's dual core processors (which I also have). I downloaded that, and didn't have a problem afterwards. Sorry, I don't have the link anymore. Try searching for "dual core hotfix."

Thanks for the quick reply, so do you think this is the cause of all my problems the lagging and slowdowns too?
I searched microsoft for the fix, found in the support section that they mention it but i cant seem to find the hotfix link... anyone able to give it to me?
Thanks again

Do that MaleK. It seems to solve that problem cause i solved the same problem the same way. You have a nice vga card and it could use the latest drivers. But download them from www.nvidia.com and not from the vga card manufacturer. It can sometimes make problems.

You can also go to the AMD website and get the Dual Core Optimizer

No you dont have to contact microsoft, link: http://www.amdzone.com/files/WinXPdualcorehotfix.exe

Yes install the dual core optimizer from the AMD website also the dual core driver.

Install in this order:

1. MS hotfix
2. dual core driver
3. dual core optimiser

reboot after each one and you're good to go

As i dont have internet at home i downloaded only the MS hotfix.
The Dual core optimiser it just has a setup.exe which is some KB out of the 5meg file that i can download. So dont think i can put that yet on my pc until i have internet at my house in 3 weeks :/
Where can i d/l the dual core driver from?
Ill give it a try with the hotfix and the latest nvidia drivers and see what happens.
Cheers guys
