pc speakers (2.1)

I've tried to find pc speaker demos at local Best Buy, Circuit, City, Sears, CompUSA, etc., but have found few working demos.

It's been tough to compare speaker setups. I'm primarily interested in a 2.1 setup, and would like to spend <= $100.

So far, I like the Altec Lansing ATP3 speakers (from what little comparo I've been able to do). I think I've found 1 review of the ATP3, and none of the ATP5 (although that's more $$ than I wanna spend).

What do you guys like for primarily music on the pc?

Also, does the SB Live! value card allow 5.1 speakers or am I limited to 2.1? (if I decide to add DVD to my computer!)

Thanks!

i absolutely second that. i have had cambridge for years. simply fanstasic.

just wait till you use your digital outs!! NO noise.....

SPEND THE MONEY TOTALLY 100% worth it -- especially if you use mp3's or play games than it is a must

The Sirocco says "PLEASE NOTE: The VideoLogic Sirocco Speaker system is NOT compatible with North American power systems at this time." How do you get around that?

That was a UK site of Videologic, they have not fully opened their products to the American market, I think that they are stating to do that.

At the moment, there is no way to get around that, but I know, in the future, you should be OK

I've heard good things about the Cambridge Digital 2.1 speakers. I finally found a place today that had both the Cambridge Digital and ATP3 speakers side by side, and I was able to do an A-B comparison.

I don't know what difference (if any) it makes for the Cambridge to be digital. I would likely be happy with either speaker setup. I found the ATP3 to have more of an enhanced presence than the Cambridge. I also liked the volume, base, and treble controls on the satellite (ATP3).

The Cambridge sounded more, right there... for want of a better term, while I thought the ATP3 seemed more expansive. It's hard to put in words what I heard... and I know everyone likes something different in speaker sound.

Have any of you A-B'd these two speakers?

I have no illusions of cracking the foundation of my house with either of these speakers. And I think either one would serve me well. But I lean to the ATP3 sound.

Thanks for the recommendations.

On a separate note, I'd really like to hear the ATP5 speakers. (45w sub/35w satellites (ATP5) vs the 18w sub/12w satellites (ATP3)). I haven't found them available for demo yet.

The were some BA4800's on display that I wanted to hear too... but they weren't working. 🙁
