I guess I'll put the pc in sleep mode tonight....

It would be the F1 BIOS screens, there are many different styles of BIOS, but there is usually a way to set APC in a "Power" screen or in an "Advanced Setup" screen or perhaps there is an option to "Load Performance Settings."

Nothing I can see to help this situation. I'm stumped. I went into BIOS via F1 key and my choices are MAIN: specs of system with option to change language, system time and date, ADVANCED: which lists Boot config, Periph config, IDE config, Diskette, Event Log and Vid configs, SECURITY: which allows for setting of passwords, POWER: which features ACPI in this field it says ACPI suspend state [S3] . S1 is safter consumes more power, S3 consumes less power but drivers may not support this function, BOOT and EXIT. I can't see the forest through the trees guys...

Thanks Usefulone. Checking into the many articles you located. Someone else referred me to the problem possibly stemming from Roxio. I downloaded the patches for that and still no go. Anyway, I will be going through every possibilty listed in the WinXp Knowlege Base link you provided.
