Honestly, I would say everything.

If you reuse your monitor, keyboard, mouse and case, you could probably get a PC for around $500 that would play it fairly well.

I completely disagree, his cpu is fine, but using onboard graphics are your major weakness. I would recommend upgrading to a discrete graphics card and that should give you a huge boost in speed and graphics quality.

Yes, his cpu and motherboard should be fine but he certainly will need a new dedicated graphics card. The mobo and cpu are not what is holding him back right now. Questions are, what are your other components? How much ram are you running? What is your budget? What is your power supply?

perhaps you should look at the requirements before buying a game. lol. the minimum just to run SC 2 is a 6600gt and the 6150 is just integrated video that isn't remotely close to that. surely you don't attempt to play any other games with that pc do you?

I have 4 gigs and have about $350-400 to spend on the upgrade. I need to out the power supply, is there a way for to do a quick check?

Basically going to need to open up your case and take a peek inside unless you happen to remember what you purchased when the computer was built.

I was a fool to think my PC could run it! lol I could run the game smooth, but on low resolution. If you guys feel that upgrading won't help, I will buy a new PC, and I budget about $1400 for that. Any feedback on a good gaming PC would be useful as well.

upgrading will certainly help. the rest of your pc is easily decent enough for a $100 video card. of course knowing your exact power supply would need to be known just to be safe.

The power supply is 450 watts.
what is the exact model and specs because 450 watts really doesn't mean anything? just look at the label that is right there on your power supply. also about how old is that power supply because if its a crappy one and its old then you might want to replace it. if its a decent name brand one then there will be no need to get a new one.

With a new video card you will be fine stay with something like a 5750 or gt250 will make a major difference . Read the specs of the game before you go out and get it lots of people over on there forums getting mad cause it runs bad and none of them are close to spec's

Depending on what brand and model of power supply you have and if you have to get a new one or not, you might want to look at the HD 5770. Pretty low power needs, directx 11 and run pretty fast with most modern games. Newegg has the 1GB HIS model for $129 right now shipped AR. If you need a new power supply, there are some good inexpensive choices like the Corsair 450VX or Seasonic S12 430W both for around $50.

Update: I am not familiar with many Ultra Power Supplies although I have heard mixed reviews. I looked up that model and it appears to only have 24A on the 12v rail. That seems low, the Corsair 450VX and even my Rosewill Green Series 430W have 33A. My gut says a new PSU is not a bad idea, but I will let others chime in.

Thanks everyone, this forum has been very helpful and reponsive. I am probably going to upgrade to teh HD5770. I am hoping to run SC2 tomorrow on high res without a problem.

A 5770 at around $140 would be the most future-proof choice, but a GTX-250 is as little as $100 after a $20 rebate (Asus / Newegg). Right now the 5750 costs about the same as the 5770 so I'd skip it.

You should have no problems on power make sure you have a 6 pin plug for the video or you will need a adapter.

Yes, just go with a 5770 and save the rest of your money for later (when you decide you need a new PC).
