PC Restarts when using CD drive

hi , i could use some help , this is driving me nuts....

i bought from a friend of mine a used but working Motherboard + Athlon XP 1800 + 512 RAM , as a Christmas gift for my nephew , to replace his old PIII.

Long story short, i build the pc , try to install windows XP on it , and the PC kept restarting on a loop , over and over.... sometimes i could even get into the "create a partition" step in WINXP installation before it restarted.

so after a full day i got it to install from another Installation CD.

but now , running Win XP , the PC restarts whenever i put a CD in the CDRW drive. i dont understand why inserting a CD would make the computer restart.... =(

another weird thing is that i´ve got no audio whatsoever, Device manager shows legacy audio drivers installed, but when i go to sound settings in CP there are no devices installed

i checked my bios for onboard audio and it is enabled (auto).

im really worried here guys , mostly because of the reboots , the audio i can get a pci audio card later and i guess hassle free.

i even tried using another drive but it kept restarting...

My Specs are:

Biostar M7VIF VIA KT-333
512 PC2700 RAM
Athlon XP 1800+
350W PSU (generic)
Clean Install of WIN XP
