PC Randomly Restarting

A few days ago, my computer starting randomly restarting every few hours. Usually 2-3 times per day. It's not crashing, just restarting. All of my temps look fine. It seems to happen at any time - while I'm gaming, while I'm just surfing the web, or even when I'm not at my computer.

They are NOT BSODs, I have automatic restart turned off. All the error log says is "Windows was not shut down properly".

ASUS P6T
i7-920 @ 4.0GHz
Intel X25-M G2 160GB
2x WD Caviar Black 1.5TB
G.SKILL 6GB DDR3 1600
ATi Radeon 5850
Corsair 620HX modular

I built it about 9 months ago.

This started happening 6 days ago, since then it has restarted 1, 2, 3, 3, 5, 1, and 1 times each day

Any ideas? This is driving me nuts.

Variation on the 12V line from the PSU? Try another PSU
Bad sectors on one of the WD Caviar Black 1.5TB Run the Manufs. utility
A bad system file? Run sfc
Clean out box.
Scan for bugs. Can't hurt.

Sounds like a PSU Issue to me, that'd be the first thing I'd check, especially if it was so random. Other than that, maybe something on your actual windows installation. You could try reinstalling windows (cheaper than purchasing a new PSU for testing). If the issue still happens after a reinstall you can bet it's a hardware related issue, and most likely the PSU.

Does it seem more likely to restart if you increase the load? Memtest, prime95, etc.
Give those a shot and maybe you can start up a process of elimination.

No, it doesn't. I've run Prime95 for up to 8 hours with no restart, and then have it crash a few hours later while I'm doing nothing but browsing the web.

Going to try a memtest tonight, then I'm going to try to clock the cpu back down to default. The problem is that it's just so infrequent...yet frequent enough to be incredibly annoying. If neither of those show anything, I guess I'll have to buy a new PSU, because I don't have a backup to test.

I've been trying to troubleshoot a similar random shutdown issue for ~5 months, but mine is much more infrequent, and I have more possibly causes to suspect. I guess the upside to the really long diagnosis cycle is that it only happens once per about 20 hours of gaming.

Maybe try OCCT for max power load testing over P95. I was at a +50% oc when I was having trouble too, and now I'm back at stock and trying to reproduce the problem.

Well, I clocked it back down and it's okay so far, but it has only been about 6 hours. Guess I'll give it a few days.

If this does turn out to be the issue...why did it just start happening now? Can anything be done to fix it?
