Pc Power? Help

My pc has been acting a little weird lately. Sometimes when i press the power button to boot it up, everything starts and posts but no signal is sent to the monitor. So i have to press the restart button and it will work. Or sometimes, my pc just wont post at all, i wont get the beep sound, but everything still powers up. Also, sometimes when im installing a game with Daemon Tools, my pc will just randomly restart. No blue screen or anything. I have disabled the automatic restart. Could anyone help me with this problem? i am using Windows xp 64. my pc specs are:

AMD 3000xp+
6800gt oc
2 120gb hdd
2 512mb corsair memory
msi kn8 mobo

any advice is geatly appreciated.
 
that didnt seem to fix the problem. Still get restarts when using intensive programs. could it be a psu problem? im using a compaq 500w with 21a on the 12v
 
You can run memtest from a CD. You also didn't list your PSU..a rather importent component..your problem could also be heat related.
