PC Power and Cooling

Are these guys good? I am looking at a $279 PSU from PCP&C that is sold at Performance PC's. Is it really worth it? The 5 year warranty sounds great and efficiency is good but...

I REALLY like the Ultra Modular PSU's but I hear they aren't so good. Any ideas?

I have a PC Power and Cooling power supply that's a silencer 275 watt, who knows how old, atleast 5 years and it's running strong. It's powering my AMD 1800+, Radeon 9800 Pro, Dual 120 GB Drives and Two optical drives (one DVD one DVD Burner) It has no problem, it seems very solid, although when I bought this it came with a life time warranty.

I doubt that their build quality has gone down since this one, but from what I hear, PC P & C is still a great company.

They are tops and are NOT quiet as blustori said. There line regulation is +-1% and their mtbf is 100,000 hours @50C (not an unrealistic 25C like all other manufacturers). They are $$$, but you do get what you pay for. I love mine....would not use any other brand psu besides this/seasonic/or Fortrons. Get what YOU want not what others might tell ya to get though.

PCP&C are arguably the best PC PSUs you can buy. However, they are overkill and overpriced for most people, who would do just fine with other lower priced but still very good PSUs. The list of these PSUs changes over time, but contenders such as Antec, Enermax and Fortron have long been in the list, with recent additions such as Seasonic, Zalman and OCZ.

PCP&C has the sort of reputation that a company gets from years of producing quality parts. If you want to go cheaper you can, as long as you're careful what you buy. But if you want the best...

PCP&C will be the PSU in my next rig....unless OCZ makes a powerstream 2, which allows for adjustment rails, is modular, and 900w so i can put my pelts on it......

The Sparkle/Fortron FSP550-60PLG is more than enough for even top end systems - about $100...

Now if you're talking mission-critical operations and spending OPM, I'd buy PCP&C all day long.

.bh.

I don't know about mission critical, I just want to have it in my personal machine and I want it to NOT toast all my components.

I special ordered the 850w SLi edition from PCP&C, before it officially went on sale, and this thing is awesome. Mine runs fairly quiet, and my system is ultra stable. PCP&C makes rock-solid psus, but only get one, if you have the cash and you truely need it.

I hope you don't mind me asking, but why on Earth would someone need an 850w power supply?
Even with the setup you have in your sig, 500 should be more than enough?

get a super flower modular psu 550 watt for a third of the price (or same price as ultra)

Super Flower? Never heard of it, is it a good PSU? At the end of the day a solid reliable performer is what I want. Thanks for the tip.

If you don't mind spending $275 then go ahead but like as others have mentioned there are $100 power supplies suited even for power users.

My 425Deluxe (500W peak) was $134.00. 5 year warranty/best line regulation period/a little loud lol/sleeved/fairly efficient/industrial grade. Not bad.

I am seriously thinking about going modular so I can clean my case up a little, it's a complete mess. Now I need to pick from Super Flower or OCZ for modular PSU's.
