Is it better to put the PC on the desk or on the floor ?

For example, the Antec Three Hundred 2 or Nine Hundred Two V3.

If i put the case on the floor, i will have more space on the desk.

I will need 6 to 10 feet cables for :

DVI Cable

Power Supply cable

Mouse USB Cable

Keyboard PS2 Cable

Speakers 2.1 cable

Printer USB cable

Modem cable RJ-45

Are these cables easy to find ?

What is the best solution for me ?

I have always put my computers on the desk but this time the case is more big.

Pics of your desk?

I'd imagine on the desk would be ideal to prevent dust, but may not be as aesthetically pleasing.

A lot depends on if your desk has one of those round holes in it you can send the cables down through. Some desks have a back and it makes it hard to route the cables. Also it seems most desks have a drawer that goes all the way to the back. Then a lot of desks also have that panel on the back. This might be difficult for some desks. Of course you could put the computer to the side a little and run the cables of the side or move the deskout and put it behind. However, as soon as you do this there will come a day when you have to climb around on your knees looking for the back of the case to plug something in or check on the ethernet or sound plug.

There are so many cable sellers on the Internet that you should just search for prices and compare. Even Amazon sells cables. For things like mini-stereo jacks maybe a Radio Shack might have something that will work. Some things like the dvi might be a little on the expensive side. It is best to find a way to make it work with the cables you have. Maybe find some kind of end table or something you could put next to the desk to raise it up a little. Just a little height would help for the dust also.

I have seen some desks with a kind of built in compartment or like a raised tray and a strap to mount the case. At work I have a cubicle kind of and it has these raised counter tops with the round holes with the plastic liners in them. A lot depends if you have a desk with all those side drawers or one that is more like a table. In the basement I use an old kitchen table for a desk. That makes for a larger flat surface. It is almost too deep with these new flat panel monitors.

In a way, I hate how IBM PC's have separate speakers and separate monitors. It depends how fanatical you are about sound and video quality, but I have one computer hooked to a HDTV and I like how the TV has speakers and you can connect it with just one HDMI cable.

It's a big white desk with drawers on the left.

Splited on the right to put our legs.

On the right of the top there is the monitor.

On the left of this monitor. I could put the case.

This desk touch the wall with a corner on the right and a another wall on the right.

The width of this desk is approximately 5 to 6 feet.

The depth of this desk is approximately 22''.

depth 22'' is too small for many cases.

I want more space to put the printer multifonctions on the desk.

The case could be on the floor side left.

Do you have questions ?

Putting it on the desk must be the dumbest idea ever. Huge waste of space, plus the closer it is to your face, the more you hear noise and feel the heat.

hardwood/tile - go floor

carpet - probably better to go with desk to minimize dust. or you could just be very anal on cleaning it often (carpet and/or computer) to reduce dust, etc.

Depends on your desk and your build IMO. I have a lovely 800D with plumbing and lighting that looks great. My desk is a massive wraparound U-shape and have plenty of real estate space to put it there. Keeps it cleaner and looks great.

Floor is going to get a lot of dust, but you can reduce that a great deal just by getting the case several inches above the floor. Put it on a sturdy box on the floor or the like. An appropriately-sized box can be thrown together easily if you have some wood, a saw, and some screws.

Do you still have one of those? LOL

PRO DESK
Less dust.

CON DESK
More noise.
Less desk space.

Carpet has its own problems if your PSU sucks in cool air from the bottom, depending on case design. Also depending on case design, where are your front ports located? Used to have a Lian Li PC-7 Plus that had USB ports at the front BOTTOM of the case - terrible to use when sitting on the floor.

Are these cables easy to find ?

Yup! Monoprice got ya covered.

It's a wood floor in the room.

There is not carpet in the room.

My choices are the pc on the desk and the printer on the floor.

The logic idea is to put the pc on the floor and the printer on the desk.

I went to the store the other day and purchased one of those Wire racks that is about 30" tall and has a middle shelf.

http://www.walmart.com/ip/3-Tier-Wire-Rack/16880639

This is neet looking way of doing if you had a minimalistic PC

Computer Stand on Wheels plywood with wheels?
http://www.officedepot.com/a/product...d-With-Wheels/

Keep the PC on the desk and get a printer stand?
This is very similar to an old cheap tv stand.
I think this is suppose to go under the desk?

You might be surprised what you can find at yard sales.

It helps if you put it on the floor if you can put something underneath it. They also make some Computer stands with wheels so you can move it in and out. One guy even said he put it on tempered glass, but I think a piece of plexi-glass might be better. Even something like a rubber mat might be nice.

If you dont have carpet maybe a computer remnent could be cut to fit under the computer or maybe a piece of felt or cardboard or fiber board or something like that.

I do have carpet and wanted it off the carpet for better PSU air flow. I just grabbed the lid off of one of those large rubber maid bins I have. Flipped it over and sat it inside. Basically a mat.

More, my desk has a depth of 22''.

At the rear, there is a palet of wood. maybe a height of 5'' or 6''.

For example, this palet can help to stop the pencils that they want to go on the floor in rear of the desk.

AlsoThis palet hold the book tablet library at a heigth more high.

A case with a depth of 20.50'' could be maybe too big. I could have difficulties to connect the power supply in bottom of the case.

The Nine Hundred Two V3 has a depth of 18.6''. It could be very good on my desk.

What do you think about this ?

Do you have others questions ?

I'm sorry for my english. I am not the best in English.

Usually, i Speak French.

Thank-You !

I have mine on the floor due to lack of space, but think when I build my new desk I'll put it on top, hopefully it wont accumulate dust as fast. I could vacuum it every day and make a new kitten with all the dust. I don't know why but my new machine attracts dust I did not even know I had. It's nuts.
