Hello,
My pc hasn't worked in over 2 weeks now. It's that long since I ordered a new power supply thinking that is the issue- but UPS has yet to deliver it since they can't seem to find Canada. But I'm posting in case that would not be the problem.
Here is the situation. I was on my pc one morning and everything powered off including the surge protector. When I powered on the pc after it said it couldn't find the hard drive so I powered it off again and that time it wouldn't come up at all, no post, no beeps, nothing.
I sat on it a few days trying stuff but nothing worked until I reset the CMOS. Then it actually did post and even attempt to boot! It shows the right amount of ram, the cpu and both hard drives but then it says missing operating system.
However, I noticed 2 other things. If I turned it off and back on, it doesn't always boot and takes 2-3 attempts. The other thing is the PSU fans do not spin.
So I guess my question at this point is, does this sound like a power supply issue? I was under the impression power supply fans should always spin? It is a 550W Coolermaster and I could not find information on that. But considering it also won't always boot up, that could be another issue.
As to the missing operating system, could it be one of the HDDs failed? I have 2 in Raid 0 and both are detected on the post... maybe the abrupt shut down messed up the data? I plugged them in the laptop with one of those SATA to USB cables that has it's own power source and both were detected but where one just wasn't visible for data- but was detected properly, the second said it had to be formatted.
Should I assume that the drives are still functional but require a reinstall or should I assume that the PSU is the reason for the missing operating system?
Actually, another option might be, could the motherboard be fried or the raid component dead?
It's hard analyzing the problem! Anyone have some input or suggestions for me? Bear in mind it does post now and detect all the parts, the 2 issues are PSU fans not spinning, the pc not always booting and the missing OS message.
Thanks
