After the black out, my PC seemed to be working ok. for a day or so. The next day, my PC begain locking up loading XP pro, on the screen right before the welcome screen. The little blue bar travels across the box a few times and then just stops. Boot logs show the amdagp.sys as the last driver to load successfully.

I tried numerous things including system restores, reinstalling the VIA4in1 drivers, BIOS updates, Nvidia drivers. etc. to no avail.

I finally reformatted my C: drive and reinstalled XP. Xp seems to be running ok, except its using the default video driver. When I try to do the windows Nvidia update, it fails every time. When I try to load the Nvidia drivers, it locks up the PC (keyboard locked up, mouse cursor doesnt move, etc). I can only power off and back on.

The video card works fine in another machine and if I put in a PCI video card into the PC it seems to run ok.

Oh yeah, my system is:

Abit Kg7-Raid Mobo
1700+ CPU
512 Mb PC2100 DDR ram
XP Pro
Xtasy Ti4200 128MB Video card

Nvidia cards and drivers have been nothing short of complete crap latley. we have had problems with the latley. It is a drivers issue though, go into safe mode and install from there, after that reboot, on the reboot hit F8, and enable VGA mode that should take care of it

Drivers did install in Safe mode. They seemed to freeze at the same spot but I let it sit there for a few minutes and it finally broke through and completed. Now, when I fire up XP, it loads up, seems ok for a few seconds. Then, I get the popup on the bottom that says "Found New Hardware Nvidia Ti4200" and 10 seconds later, the PC locks up again.

You know that`s an AMD761/VIA 686B chipset so DON`T INSTALL the VIA AGP driver that`s included in the VIA 4-IN-1 driver pack, you`ll need this AMD AGP 5.33 driver ,I`m guessing you installed the wrong AGP driver.

It`s always best to install chipset drivers straight after OS install.Anyway install the AGP from above link and try installing the Nvidia driver again,if that does not work try Driver Cleaner 1.9 from

here ,last option would be reformat again, btw make sure you disable anti-virus before install of the Nvidia drivers.
