I have a Core 2 System

Core 2 Duo E4300
Gigabyte 965P-S3
Geil Value Series 1GB DDR2 800 (5-5-5-15)
3 HDD SATA Seagate (80gb, 160gb & 80gb)
GeForce 8600GT 256mb

My problem is that when booting & start ups, my PC seems to lag...
Also when launching many internet apps and other progams it lags.....
All 3 of my HDD are almost full of files....

1. Is the problem lies in my memory????
2. Do I need another 1GB stick, coz I am just ruuning a Single Channel 1GB DDR800..
3. Is there any difference in dual channel & sungle channel mode, how much does the performance differ????
4. Or do i need to buy a Kingston Hyper-X which is 4-4-4-12...???
5. Supposing I change it with Hyper-X 1stick single channel mode, will it make a difference???? Or its better to retain my Geil & just add another 1GB to make it 2GB & Dual Channel...???

Add a 1 gig stick of the same memory to run in dual channel, for a total of 2GB.

Defrag the Hard Drives.

Clean the Temp/Temp Internet Files. (use IE Privacy Keeper)

Clean the registry.

Good luck!

What OS are you running?

1. Is the problem lies in my memory????
The problem may not be the memory itself, but most likely the amount you have.
2. Do I need another 1GB stick, coz I am just ruuning a Single Channel 1GB DDR800..

With dual channel your memory gets double the bandwidth and so performance increases, depending on your day to day tasks, this won't matter too much.
4. Or do i need to buy a Kingston Hyper-X which is 4-4-4-12...???
Stick with what ya got.
5. Supposing I change it with Hyper-X 1stick single channel mode, will it make a difference???? Or its better to retain my Geil & just add another 1GB to make it 2GB & Dual Channel...???
Ding!

Make sure to defrag your hard drives! If it's been awhile and you have tons of files this can decrease performance.

I always defrag my HDD, repair & defrag my registry....

If its not the lack of ram, i thought maybe its my primary HDD (where my OS installed) w/c is a Seagate 7200.10 80gb SATA wd 2mb Cache....

Will it make a difference if I change it wd the same 80gb SATA but 8MB of Cache.....????

What do you mean by saying "it lags" ?
Is your mouse skipping at that time ? Is your mouse skipping when you read files from the HDD ?

most of the times during start ups....it takes 1-2 minutes to move my mouse because it lags...
maybe my memory or hdd cannot handle very well during start ups....

Right click on the "My Computer" icon select Manage, go to Device Manager ( left portion of the window obviously ) on the right side of the window now, expand the "IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers" and check each controller to make sure that your HDDs and optical drives are working in DMA Mode NOT in PIO Mode.

Let me know if they're all working in DMA Mode or if a drive is/was in PIO Mode.
