PC Keeps locking up...nvidia/XP conflict?

Hey guys,

So here's the basic problem: My computer will crash if I try to do anything remotely video-related. This includes running anything that's 3d, or even some ordinary mpeg files, or the visualization on WMP. I just did a clean install of Windows XP Pro with my new video card, Nvidia Geforce4 4200 128MB.

I looked for solutions, and from what I could glean it seems that this isn't the video card's problem, but because windows doesn't like it when nvidia installs its own drivers (I have the latest detonator drivers, 30 something). However, I don't know what to do to fix this...Any ideas? Thanks!

it's a common problem...

first try rolling back the driver to the one that xp installs (12.40) in the device manager/display adapter/driver

if you find that you are stable, then see here:

lots of things to try...upping ram voltages, disabling bios features, adjusting ram speed, different power supply

all of these things have fixed the problem for some people...and some people say none of them work for them (except using the original xp drivers)

weird problem...good luck
