PC keeps freezing

When I play games (happened twice when watching a movie in WMP and once while surfing the net) sometimes my computer will freeze for no reason what so ever...

I have bought a stick of 512mb INFINEON 400mhz ram about 4 months ago since my old ram was defective and this started happening since I put this new ram, but it only started about a month ago...

However, when my PC freezes my harddrive's light isn't blinking... could it be my harddrive that's broken ?

I checked if it was an overheating problem, ran prime95 torture test for 5 hours and it didn't find any errors in the memory.. what could be the problem?

p4 3.0 ghz with HT 800mhz
MSI NEO2-P i865PE
radeon 9600XT 128mb
80gb IBM harddrive 7200rpm IDE (its about 5 years old)
Windows xp home
512mb INFINEON 400mhz

Could be the HD... but you do know that 80gb hard drives weren't out 5 years ago... probably a bit younger than you state. Could be an OS problem too... might want to look at doing a OS repair install....

id bank somehting to do with the memory, id see if you can swap it out with another stick, borrow one or somethign liek that to see fi it clears up, if it does, RMA that puppy

Well after I changed my ram I did a fresh format.. could still be that but I really doubt it.. what should I do to test the harddrive and see if any errors come up?

Most of the time a hard drive will make an unpleasant sound if it's the problem. Freezes during games sounds like a heat, ram timings, video card issue to me.
