PC joystick/gamepad recommendations

Inspired by the Halo thread:

What are some good joysticks for the pc? Something with POV control. I have an old gravis pad but never got it working.

i've got an extremely old (from my days of playing TIE Fighter) CH Gamestick 14 and it works like a charm for BF1942

i was gonna suggest the sidewinder... i still use mine sometimes
