That would be lying. It did work, and you changed the heatsink and now it doesn't work. Let's focus on getting it working. What heatsink did you get, what kind of fan does it use, and what did you plug the fan into (mobo or PSU)? What motherboard and CPU is this?

Be cooperative and answer the questions I asked in my first post, if you actually want some help (from me, anyway). I'm not just making conversation ;) After reading your board's owners' manual, I think I know what the issue is. What precise model of AOC fan/heatsink do you have, and what is it plugged into, the motherboard (if so, which header) or the PSU? Is the stepped end of the base oriented to match the raised, solid-plastic end of the CPU socket (good) or the other way (bad)?

Make sure the ATX cable from the PSU is firmly in the connector on the motherboard. Check your cables and make sure sure to clear the CMOS. If you can't find the CMOS jumper, unplug the power and take out the battery for 5 minutes. Then re-insert the battery, hook up the power and boot up.

Your board and CPU are probably not dead. It would really help if you answered the questions, but since you won't, I'll be a nice guy and point you to page 31 and 32 of your owners' manual.

See the thing called W/O CPU FAN Power Warning on page 32? The board is designed not to run if it isn't getting an RPM signal on the CPUFAN header located just above the main ATX plug. You can change this W/O CPU FAN Power Warning setting so it will run regardless, and that's what I suggest. You may be able to bypass this failsafe by holding down the Insert key while powering up until it begins to POST, then go into the BIOS and disable it (this works on Soyo boards, for example).

If that won't work, plug your old heatsink's fan into the CPUFAN header temporarily, so the motherboard sees an RPM signal when it starts, and then go into the BIOS and disable the W/O CPU FAN Power Warning.

He don't know the english!

heh. Yah, don't be a jerk and take it back after it stopped working as a result of something you did. I don't know, but the post about the fan speed return protection is probably right.

symptoms of dead cpu? CAn a bios crash from moving around the mobo or can it just crash? Also is it possbile to kill a fan header on the mobo and thats causing all the hs fans i try not to register?
