Hi this is the specs for my computer.

900 Mhz Thunderbird Processor
KG7-Raid Motherboard
256 megs of PC 2100 DDR Registered
Sound Blaster Live 5.1
GeForce 2
Linksys network card
16x burner
52x CD-rom
IBM 20 gig Deskstar Hardrive

I am having a bit of problems with my new parts working in sinc. I just got the motherboard and the ram. I installed Windows XP and it is running like $h1t. It is really slow and i'm not sure what is going on. I just turned it on a couple minutes ago and it is now not detecting the CD roms. I was just wondering if someone could help me on what i should do. This really sux that i can not use my machine. I think it has great possibility but with this problem i can't even get off the ground. Some one please help me on what to do.

Hmmm... not much help here since i dont have an AMD board but just wondering... although you may have an AMD chipset... you still have a VIA southbridge (?)... do you still need the 4in1 drivers?

I'm new to PC hardware so i'm not sure on what you mean by southbridge. I was also wondering what you mean by the 4 in 1 thing. Please be a little more vague for the hardware newbie (aka me)

If I had to guess, I would nominate the SBLive as the most likely suspect. Try moving it down to one of the lowest 2 PCI slots if you haven't already. But the network card can sometimes cause problems, too. It's generally best to install as little as possible to start with in order to avoid conflicts during installation and to narrow down the source of problems. Try removing the sound card, NIC, and burner to start with. If that doesn't help, reinstall XP with only the basic components, and make sure you've got the latest 4-in-1's before installing anything else.

Ah... I wasn't paying close attention. I'm not sure, off the top of my head, whether you need the 4-in-1's for a hybrid motherboard like yours. But someone will probably wander by soon that knows for sure.

But what 4-in-1's are are a set of drivers to help VIA chipsets cooperate better with Windows, since Microsoft conveniently ignores the existence of non-Intel chipsets. Generally, they're included on the mobo CD, though they're updated frequently online.

Okay, you do need at least some of the 4-in-1 drivers for your board. More info on this, and tons of other KG-7 stuff, can be found in Paul's FAQ. The 4-in-1 issue is discussed here.

So does this happen alot with this type of motherboards.(and i mean the hybrid motherboards.)
I hope someone else posts soon about this if they know.

I really want to play with my PC

Try the SB Live in PCI3
Linksys in PCI4
make sure DMA is enable in the device manager
check bios for optimum settings

You really don't need to install any chipset drivers, XP has native support

control panel, system, hardware , devicemanager! Oh if you cant see system then just swich the contol panel to classic veiw! when you get in the device manager you'll be looking for primary and secondary ide (right click on one select properties then advance tab) make sure they are set to DMA and also make sure that your two cd roms are on the same IDE channel and your hard drive is seperate! Unless your always copying CD TO CD! if DMA does not help try messing with the sound card and nic that could be it also!
