PC Hardware Upgrade Issues

I'm building a new PC for a friend, and while most of the hardware is new, he wanted me to just use the exisiting hard drive, DVD drive, and CD burner. I setup everything and now the computer won't boot into windows.

I got one error message saying the IDE 0 Conductor was not installed. Is this a hardware issue?

Secondly, Is it ok take a hard drive with an OS install on it and put it into a brand new system to run?

Thanks!

More likely than not, it's a hardware issue. check your cables. To answer your second question, no, it's not alright. Some people get lucky and don't have a problem, but there's a lot of cases where windows won't work properly. I think it's a driver issue... You're best off with a clean installation of windows on a spare hard drive, so then you can copy over all your necessary files from the other hard drive.
