When I go preform certain commands, from anything like: Typing words on a keyboard, opening a dialog box, clicking a link, etc. The computer "freezes" or "hangs" for a few moments.

Here's a typical example:
1. The computer freezes,
2. The hard drive begins to speed up quickly
3. After about 5-7 seconds, the computer resumes loading whatever it was that I was doing.

If I am typing while its frozen, it will "speed type" everything that was not displayed once the PC catches up. I don't know whats causing these random 'hangs', any ideas?

This sounds like something that happened to me with Firefox on Ubuntu (and possibly Win7 as well, but I don't remember). It was weird, and stopped happening once I upgraded it. Here's an idea: try to keep the process manager open, and see if any of them are causing spikes. Does this happen with any app open, or is it a particular one that's causing the freezes?

It's mostly from MS Word, Sony Vegas (When dragging in raw video/audio into project timeline), and Firefox. Doesn't happen in games or anything like that. I'll keep an eye on it w/task manager!

Sounds like the hard drive is spinning down too aggressively.

Start Menu->type "power options"->change plan settings on currently selected plan->change advanced power settings->hard disk->turn off hard disk after->set to higher number (in minutes) or 0 to disable spin down.
