If you actually wanna know, Xbox 360 uses ATi R 5xx series and is surely better than any 7600GT/7800GT class card out there.
To be more precise, it is better than any current graphic card but does loose to dual GPU setups.

The place where PCs take the lead is that they are equipped with much faster CPUs and a fast CPU like the C2D paired with a 1900XT beats the Xbox 360!

Actually I don't think it's quite that simple. It is based on an off the shelf GPU, but has some specific instructions that a standard PC card doesn't have available. the raw power is far less than a 7900gtx or x1900xtx/1950xtx

Er, not exactly. It's really only a shade better than the X8xx series.

You obviously don't have a clue. Today's high end GPUs make the 360 look like a turtle.

Haha. Have you played TES4 Oblivion on Xbox360 and a $1200 PC (e.g. 7900GT/X1900XT)? Not even close to as much GPU power. It's faster than a 7800GT but not by much. As said above it's based on X800 series, remember this hardware for the 360 was designed ~2-2.5+ years ago.

The advantage to having a console is that if you buy a game for it, it will run. Most good games come out on all platforms anway. Sounds like somebody may have buyers remorse and is trying to justify an xbox purchase..........

Computer games drop in value quicker than 360 games do in my honest opinion.

Tell me why I'm still playing Baldur's Gate II, then. I'm not the only one.

360 games have been out for less than a year, how can you compare them to computer games?

Or are you just talking about price? Because it's definitely not true for quality.

What about the thousands of people still playing Everquest or any other MMO which has been out for 5+ years now. Or hell, I still play Diablo2 on occation.

Just to add a counterpoint as I personally think that both haver their merits, but what about people with Dreamcasts or N64s or even NES (and so on) who are still playing those games? It goes both ways. My N64 gets more play than my PC ever did and I pretty much didn't play my 360 (hence why I sold my first one and then why I'm selling my second one). There are and will be good games on the 360, PS3, Wii, and the PC as well and anyone who thinks that one platform is superior to all the rest absolutely is just naive.

yeah, you can say five thousands bucks would be a close match to the systems I build. but FYI, you can get such a nice... laptop if you had five thousand bucks to throw on gaming.

personally man... if I had a choice, gaming laptop all the way. there is a company that does Athlon FX 60 processors on a laptop, I'm sure they would have no problem sporting the conroe chips which are way faster. all you gotta do is put up a USB connector to a desktop style environment that hits up 4 other USB's for permanent keyboard and mouse.

if you want creative quality sound, the Audigy 2 ZS card, obviously.

and the video out on a laptop, easily done. Geforce 7900 GTX mobile, you're good on games!

alright so what more could you ask for?

mobile gaming, LAN party ready without the extra baggage?

battery life probably less than an hour, LOL, but I mean, just find an outlet guys.

360 is pretty useless without a $1500+ 1080p HDTV to hook it up to.

Main reason I ain't got one although I would be happy with a $800 32" LCD which I don't even have. Other reason is I am waiting for the modding scene to mature more.

xbox graphics = made to play on 800x600 tv screens? i dunno if their games support HDTV 16x9 or w/e but most people will be playing their 360 on 800x600 res, its not that hard to get graphics to run very nice on that resolution.. my x1900xt will eat that.

Umm lets see I will make a nice table of computer vs. console

Computer-------------------------------------vs-----------------------------------console

mouse and keyboard------------------------vs-----------------------------------controller???

2560x1600p----------------------------------vs-----------------------------------1280x720p???

able to anything------------------------------vs-----------------------only games and MCE???

Umm, it seems to me like consoles are becoming much more like computers as time goes by... eventually people will just put computers in their living room, because consoles will be so expensive it will be more convenient to buy a PC which can do a lot more things.

And I dont want to get started about the fact that I have to pay 70 dollars for a single player game which I will get bored of a week after I finish it. Everyone knows that any single player game can be had for free on PC. All you really need to pay for is multiplier (for authentication reasons).

Good game, now you guys can lock.

comparing a PC to a Console is like comparing a dishwasher to a trash compactor
the PC will always have more functionality imo

its my understanding that the xbox360 has 3 tricore CPUs, i could be wrong though

Anyone who makes these comparisons simply has no clue about:

1. The economies of manufactured consumer electronics.
2. The development cycle of consoles.
3. The design of specific microarchitectures.
4. The advantages of no OS overhead and writing to specific hardware.

1 three core CPU and each core is a simple RISC processor. x86 is a CISC instruction set, and modern x86 CPUs translate that to their own internal RISC logic. That said, they do it really, really well, so there is almost no performance cost there. Nevertheless, by designing an instruction set from scratch (well, I assume it shares a set with the PowerPC line from the 90's) you can gain some efficiencies. Remember how long the legacy of the x86 instruction set is.

Wats the multiplier?

kuqdew: WWYBYWB?

You started this thread because you _knew_ it would get people pissed off and now you can sit and watch it. Fine. But what's the point in cluttering up GH? Just post this crap in off topic.

Thread lock please mods.

I've had a PC and a console since Commodre 64 and Atari 2600. I've always preferred PC games becaue the've typically had more depth than consoles. But the PC game is changing, and it saddens me to see PC games dumbed-down because developers code for console and port to PC.

I don't currently own a console, but from what I've seen, I'm not that impressed. If you have a decent computer and know what you are doing, it will look much better than, say, XboX 360.

I'm also disappointed in the 'media provider' strategy of companies like Valve who don't want to sell us a complete product in a box anymore, but want to overcharge for a license to downloadable bits and pieces because they think digital distribution is the wave of the future.

Give me a PC and a box with a full game in it, please.
