Yes, it is the original and I cannot be a pro considering I haven't played the original since c.1994, or any version since the first year of Civ2 (~1996). BTW, what are the TXT files that are not really TXT files? I tried to open one and a lot of it was not text.
 
This makes me want to play the original Colonization, basically Civ set around the settling of America and the deceleration of independence, loved that game.

They re-did that for Civilisation IV.

Wasn't quite as charming but was a fair remake.
 
imho,
civ 1 was the best game
civ 2 was the better simulation, but computer ch3at0rz
alpha centauri was almost as good as civ 1 + 2, but too easy
civ 3 was fun but inferior to civ 2 and 1 because: too far up its own arse. (cheating too hard, weird hard-balancing that makes min-maxing less useful, and more complexity without adding depth.
civ 4 was bad because it was civ 3 but worse
civ 5 was a joke
