I've recently just put the finishing touches to http://www.pcgamingstandards.com which is a non profit website built for gamers, it has been designed to provide pc gamers with an easy way of finding fixes for problems like broken widescreen, mouse acceleration you can't remove and unsupported screen resolutions.

At the moment there isn't a lot of games in the database so if you would like to help and you can post all the criteria for a game then just reply and let me know and I can add the game quite quickly. If you spot any mistakes please let me know so I can investigate and correct them ASAP.

If you can reguarly add games to the list please PM me.

I hope you all find this helpful, please leave comments and suggestions, also please be patient with loading, at the moment the website is hosted on my home connection so may be a little slow at times, dedicated hosting is coming soon
 
Nice looking site.

I could add a game, but I don't know the exact fix (it's a driver hack). Maybe it'll show up on here sometime.

 
Thank you, if you can just list a games criteria that is a good start, I can look for fixes and add them in at a later date, the database isn't static and will be continually revised so new fixes can be added later on, it's very flexible.
 
The game I'm talking about is Settler 4.

There is an issue that when you open one of the sub-menus, when you close it, instead of the area covered by the menu returning to the game area display it leaves a blacked out area 🙁

The game works fine with ATI/AMD graphic cards, but it seems Nvidia broke it on cards of the 8xxx and newer series.
Someone found a hack in the Nvidia drivers (Z plotting was unenabled or something like that) and got it working for the 8800 GTX.
It doesn't work for other models, and I'm not familiar enough with video drivers to see what he changed to add any other models.

I have a copy of the modded driver if you're interested in looking it over.

It really torques me off that Nvidia did this . . . .

I was at an MS conference a few years back [free MS Office deal] and they said the #1 reason for bug reports [whenever software would crash] were due to un-certified graphic drivers [beta drivers]. I bet if people stop using beta drivers [which means companies would have to stop releasing beta drivers] and developers programmed a game for a specific driver version [must be certified by Microsoft] - the # of problems would go down significantly.
 
The site isn't really going to list internal bugs and those related to bad drivers, thats way beyond it's scope.

I've spoken with Ibrin at widescreengamingforum and he's OK with me linking to fixes they have, so games that fail the widescreen catagory or possibly any of the aspect ratio catagories will link directly to widescreengamingforums fixes, or elsewhere if necessary. All other catagories link to fixes if available, from a veriaty of website/sources.

It's kind of like WSGF but for more catagories.

No, a friend from the hardocp forums called Bladeiai offered to do graphics for the website, you can find links to his site and work on the front page on the right, it's called Bladetech.
 
Very nice site and idea! Looks like it would be a pain to test and update the site with all of that information though. Something that may get old for you very quickly.

Edit: BTW - I believe Assasin's Creed is Hor+. I would have noticed otherwise while playing it.
 
Well I am looking for some help, I could do with a few admins who can help add games from time to time, I'm going to try and add as many as possible myself but I have a limit on how many games I can buy/test on my own.
 
Good idea. Once you start getting more games though it's going to get messy. I would...

1. Give each game its own page instead of just a row from a DB. You can generate it dynamically and call it from link off the main list.
2. Include links to relevant publisher's support forum.
3. Include links to metacritic or relevant review sites.
4. Take blog posts out of the frame. I have to scroll the browser to get to the scrolling frame (FF 3.5, 1680x1050). If they're going to be in a frame, be sure the whole frame displays in a window at whatever your "recommended resolution" is.
5. Create an easy "Submit Game" form. If you want them submitted directly to the DB, have them flagged as "unchecked" and put them in a separate list until you can verify. Or, easy way to do it, have them sent to you via email.

1) I like this idea and it's do-able to auto generate a unique page for each game and list the traits in a more literal way along with other information such as support forum links like from 2) and 3) etc. I'll definately look into this.

4) I'll look into sorting the blog section out
5) I may add a form to submit games, for now there is a contact form to get in touch if you want a game added.

You need to get help from the guy who has all of these games installed legally. I hear he won't do it for free though.

p.s. be sure when you generate the pages give them a unique, but indentifiable URL. If you're going to do it entirely dynamically, add part of the game name (or the whole thing) in the URL.

It'll help the search bots out tremendously.

Yeah I know how to do this, the blog page uses dynamic urls to create many pages at one address, they can indexed by google if they're listed in the sitemap which is something I'm sorting for my site at the moment.

The search is a little strict at the moment it searches literally for what you've typed so "half life" is considered one word. I'll work on improving this, great feedback everyone thanks 🙂
 
Due to popular demand I've added an "add game" button at the bottom of the front page, this submits a game to an admin for review. Let me know if you have any problems with it.
 
An important update today, i've added a generic fix page to the website http://www.pcgamingstandards.com/GraphicsFix.aspx

This page has guides for setting AA/AF and Vsync on/off in the driver control panel or with a 3rd party application.

This means any game that fails to pass the AA, AF or Vsync criteria and also doesn't have a unique fix for that problem already, can now be linked to this generic fix.

I've updated the database to reflect this, bringing the total number of fixes up.
 
This was a submission from someone else, I've not tested it for accuracy completely, but you need to consider that ALL 4:3 resolutions need to be supported all the way up to 2048x1536 which it might not do.
 
What's the site written in? I do PHP and javascript programming for the web professionally, and I wouldn't mind helping out with a few things here and there (such as the search) if needed.

I don't have a ton of time outside of my job / girlfriend / girlfriend's son, but I'm always happy to help out a good cause - and making it easier to see which games support what is definitely a good cause in my book.
