Would a Radeon 2900XT 512 be adequate to play PC games on a 70" LCD? Would having a Crossfire setup be beneficial at all?

The rest of the system specs would be as follows:

C2D 6850 @ 3 Ghz on air
10,000 Raptor SATA Drive
4 GB RAM - DDR2-800
Latest ASUS Board

I'd like to be able to game on this beast & have the performance be impecible. In case you're wondering which display it is, it's Sony's new KDS-Z70XBR5, which is expected to be released Jan. '08. It's supposed to have a pretty damn fast processing unit, which would minimize lag or shadowing.

What are your thoughts?

Mentioning the resolution would be more helpfull. Size doesn't really matter, it's the resolution that matters. How much does it cost anyways ? 3-4k ? more ? If so, I'd most definately get a better videocard. I guess crossfiring 2 HD3870's 512mb would be nice. More vram might be needed though, if we're talking of resolutions past 1900*1280. Maybe sli-ed 8800gts, the new ones that is, with 1024mb vram?

That set has a res of 1920x1080, the 2900XT should be quite adequate for that resolution for all but the most demanding games such as Crisis, for those you would probably need to turn off some eye candy or suffer with low minimum FPS. Crossfire would definately give you higher FPS at this resolution.

I just wouldn't buy a 2900xt, it really suffers after using AA as well. 8800gt right now is faster AND cheaper then a 2900xt. If you can spend massive amounts of money on a screen, I sure as hell wouldn't mind spend $400-500 on or two videocards either.

unless you already have the 2900 dont bother, the 3870 should be out later this week and 2 of them in crossfire should be about the same price as the 2900 (and a lot faster).

I do currently have a 2900XT, so I'd like to maximize what I have. The display is expensive, so I'm hoping I don't have to start from scratch with the video card.

I wonder how BF2 will look on this display with a high performance machine...Any guesses on what the WOW Factor will be like?

I have yet to see a PC game played on an LCD display. For those of you that have, what gave you the WOW Factor?

Can I expect to be blown away by the performance of this display with PC games?

The cost of a new videocard would be like a drop of water in an ocean compared to what that screen is going to cost. Step up to a better videocard when you buy that screen, or it's like buying 5000$ speakers, using onboard sound. And to be honest, you're going to be sitting MILES away from that screen, wouldn't like that myself.

I don't think the 2900XT is so outdated & so under-powered that you would compare it to "onboard sound", but I get your point.

Yes, I will be sitting quite a distance from the screen, but it won't be like I won't be able to see what's on it. lol

We are talking January, so that gives me plenty of time to make a decision on a new graphics card. I just find it hard to believe that so many people already consider it to be outdated & well under-powered compared to the cards currently being released.

I could see a 10 - 15% difference in performance, but some are making it sound like it's a 50% difference.
