Old Post

http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboB...t=Combo.720933

I am looking to build a PC since nothing in the stores is worth a darn..

My goal for this PC is to Game.. SWTOR, BF3.. etc

Budget 1k or less

My research "suggests" the i5 2500k is the way to go, though for all i know there is a better AMD alternative..

My research is inconclusive as far as MOBO's go..P or Z.. I may get an SSD down the road so I am leaning toward the Z

I believe that 8 gigs of Ram is a minimum, but I could be wrong.. I have heard some say 4 gigs is plenty for gaming purposes..

As far as Vid cards go.. the 2gb 6950 is my target, but again I could be wrong.., not sure if the extra gig will make a large difference, if the 560ti 1gb is a better choice.. etc

As far as OS software.. I dont plan on buying it, gonna try to transfer a current license..

I just bought a new monitor for the system.. 23 inch HP LED.. on sale at Best buy for $150

I am worried about making a purchase decision to find that even though the specvs are right, the Mobo and ram dont get along or something like that.. I have had systems in the past that simply did not like a certain type or brand of Ram. so Im scared since money is tight and RMA via snail mail is not cheap

Thats whay I am looking at this bundle.. I figure the parts must be compatable, but then again I belive I can do as good, if not better simply by picking out the parts myself, saving on shipping and not getting something I dont want, like that AV software in this bundle..

Any how, thanks for reading.. input and suggestions welcome

it has some good componets but some are just plain bad or i hate them
for example:
the case, i hate, i think it sucks
power supply is crap
and it has no dedicated graphics card -__-

but overall it looks alright.
i love the ASUS board

THE RAM IS COMPATABLE WITH THE MOBO
4gb is plenty for gaming

Let's see...IMHO,
  • ASUS Maximus IV Gene-Z is overpriced by $60 compared to this board everyone recommends. (Unless you want to SLI or Crossfire, but they're probably not worth it.) Also, the ASUS board is sold out. 😕
  • CORSAIR Vengeance 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 is overpriced by $20 from this. Also, many boards come with memory deals; if you get the one above, you can save at least $5 more. (There are a couple of cheaper deals, but I don't recommend them for you.)
  • I agree, Panda Security Internet Security is overpriced by $50. 😛
  • Should you happen to live near a Micro Center, Intel Core i5-2500K is overpriced by $40 minus taxes.
  • The power supply is probably not too bad, but you can do better with this one and its $15 off promo code that ends tomorrow. 😱 So that saves another $5.
  • I can't really comment on the case; I'll let someone else tell you if it's overpriced.

The other parts are a good list of inexpensive, quality parts. 🙂 So depending on whether you live near a Micro Center, this deal is either break-even at most (if those boards come back in stock) or up to $40 too expensive.

My research "suggests" the i5 2500k is the way to go, though for all i know there is a better AMD alternative..
For all I know there is too, but they're not selling Bulldozers yet, or even letting benchmarks out, so nobody knows for sure yet. If you can wait a month or so, then we'll know for sure.

4gb is plenty for gaming
This is correct. If you absolutely have to save $15, get this. But $15 for an extra 4GB is a really good deal IMHO.

That $140 combo discount looks swanky, but that includes the laughable $50 MSRP for Panda. So let's look at it as a $90 discount. None of the components are bad per se, but they're not a great value. Doing the math though, I think you probably break even with the combo, so it's not terrible.

Your latest build looks really good, I would just change the seagate drive for a samsung F3 1tb drive as they are generally regarded as more reliable. Also that case.. it looks nice, I get that, but it is quite old and doesn't have a cut out for attaching a cpu cooler and it doesn't have any cable management to speak of. The Nine Hundred Two is the newer, up to date, version of that case http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811129097 .

The Cooler Master HAF 912 is a good budget case, but it doesn't have usb 3.0 (and it's currently OOS at newegg). I think the Rosewill is decent enough but it doesn't mention anything about what cable management it offers. Having said that, if you like the looks of the Rosewill case and want usb 3.0 I think it is a decent choice.

The Antec 300 is a good case
you onl;y need a good 500 to 550 watt psu for a gtx 560 ti
get the standard version, non oced one for the GPU

Care to post the results of your research for everyone enlightenment? Or are you just spouting?

Its quite clear from your earlier post and post elsewhere that you prefer ATI to NV. Its also clear from my last post that I prefer NV. Let's just agree to disagree and leave it at that. As far as NV cards go, the GTX 560 Ti is at the price inflection point where everything starts to just go way up in price compared to specs. Sure you can get a 580 for double the price but its not even close to double the performance.

Assuming you don't live near a Micro Center, for that CPU deal I mentioned earlier...

This bundle (CPU+560ti) could save you a few bucks. (I'm not saying 560ti is better; just that this bundle is cheap.)

Would this setup work well if I OC the CPU?
Yes! That's the whole point of the K series CPUs.

TY for that Bundle info.. I am so close to just going crazy and actually buying siomething

The ASUS 560ti is a Nice card.. however obe must consider the Cons posted by others who have bought it..

Quoted from Feedback..

Cons: Red stripes. I have a 100% blue themed build. Maybe some people are interested in red builds but I am not. Red means heat to me. The blue of my build signifies cool.

Cons: Not a fan of all the drivers Nvidia installs

Cons: I can't afford two for SLI.

And the biggest Con of all..

Cons: It won't cook my pizza.

😎

I will be making a buying decision within the week, I gotta before my wife spends all my money on foo foo crap!!

I really like that i5 2500k and 560ti bundle.. hmmm

Uhhh what? I prefer the best bang for the buck. Which happens to be AMD IMHO right now. I've recommended cards from both manufacturers, depending on market conditions. Back before the GTX 500 and 6000 series came out, it was GTX 460 and 470 all the way for me. The GTX 260 Core 216 was a great value back when they dropped it to 55nm as well.

Bottom line, all I asked you to do was to post some links to your research. If were just posting from blind fanboyism, you shouldn't have tried to couch your response in terms of having done research.

Im still shopping.. Updated post with current build..

Hoping Ram and MB get along.. any ideas to shave off some cash or get something more bang for the Buc.. reliable, etc is welcome..

Note The HAF cases some have suggested would save some coin, but they have less than 12 inches of room which could be an issue fitting a large card into unless you remove the larger Drive cage..

I alsread have the original Antec 900 model, the V3 has some improvements I like and I figure I can part swap as time goes on if needed..

Still would be nice to get a case with the room, the looks and the fans for less that $110

The ASrock MB is around 120, I thought I could do better for that price, but everyone seems sold on this board so I went with it... other comparable boards seem nicer, but reviews tell some scary stories. This Board appears to have good reviews..
