DVD license fees and manufacturing costs are a lot more than CDs

Future games might use DVD whne it becomes more standard.

I don't know why anybody uses CD-Rom as a DVD-Rom is not that much more.

But future games are going to need a lot of space for the graphics.

They're nearly 3 times the cost of the CD-ROM.

Personally, on a PC, I think they're currently a waste.

Where do you get 3 times as much??? try about .5 times as much on average.

Go to pricewatch. 16X DVD - $33, while a 52X CD-Rom = $22

Well, for the brands I'd buy, Lite-on, Pioneer, Newegg has them around $42. So they are only twice as much.

And here I though you were talking about the MEDIA and that the MEDIA costs 3 times as much...

Which is true and can be a contributing factor.

POD? That wasn't on DVD was it? I know it was the first game to use MMX, but I didn't know it was the first game on DVD.

Actually, the very first one was Dragon's Lair.

Actually you can fit 10gigs on 1 DVD if its dual-layered (like most movies).
The Xbox version of MGS2 is 10 gigs and its on just one DVD.

Actually, Dragon's Lair was a laser disc game in the arcades. The PC version of Dragon's Lair was raster graphics based that never did the arcade machine justice.

There is a DVD version, but it plays on a DVD player, not a DVD ROM and you use your DVD player's remote control to play.

It's just a matter of time I guess. The exact same argument was going on with the floppy to cdrom situation back in the early 90s. Eventually the base requirements of any given application will require hardware that exceeds antique computers not equipped with a dvd drive.
