PC games that require the disc to be in the drive to play

I don't remember the last time I put a disc in my pc to play a game. Once I'm done installing I don't touch the disc again unless I have to reinstall.

Either you've got a VERY limited library that happens to be all disc-free titles or you hack your games using GameCopyWorld.

I've only got a handful of games that dont require a disc and usually I have to wait a year for the developer or publisher to come out with a patch for it.

Sad.
In theory PC gaming could be MUCH easier than console gaming. Install once and then hide the disc forever. They just need to stop making the discs a requirement entirely. It serves no real purpose, it just makes the publisher think their game is secure and pirate-proof.
And there arent yet enough titles on STEAM to make this a reality. And some independant hacks can fudge up the game even worse.
 
They do suck. I always(used to anyway) find the No-CD if I'm not going to play the game much. These days though, I don't play different games much at the same time. So after Installing i just leave the disc in the drive, sometimes for many months.
 
its really bad if a game has a cd-key or is tied to your account to play and still requires the CD. they already verified ownership by tieing an account to it and your email address, but still want the CD in? bs...
 
Yes that is really annoying. I don't like NoDVDs always because I've heard some multiplayer games will not play well with it. MiniDVD images are usually a safe bet but not always available.

I rather have DRM to connect to the internet and activate on install than have a simple CD check. I don't like limited activations with no un-activations (though I'm not sure I have any of these) but anything else I'd rather have than a pointless CD check.
 
It is rather amusing that games which authenticate the license key online (checking for duplicates) require the disk, especially multi-player games.

Requiring the disk for games with activation caps baffle me as well.

Also, all the multiplayer games I play are on Steam and I can play COD4 online without a disc (I don't remember if it's like that originally or because of the crack).
 
It is annoying, but there are ways around it and I prefer having a hard copy rather than a digital download.
 
Personally, having the disc in the drive has never bothered me. I'd rather have a hard copy than digital download as well.

Edit: And whats with a poll where you only have one choice? LOL
 
Does anybody make ISO copies of their games to mount in virtual drives? I was considering doing this at one point, just making a copy of every game.. but then it came to me that I would be using alot of hard drive space, and if the hard drive where to ever fail my work would be destroyed.

I don't quite understand how the different copy protection schemes work either since I've never actually tried it.

It might be neat to have a hd dedicated to nothing but game ISOs.
 
On the other hand, I like digital downloads. I can get to my games whenever I want when I'm travelling and I have enough boxes sitting on my shelf as it is. Between digital downloads and playing MMOs, I rarely have to put a disc in.
 
/smirk - Nope..I love hearing the dvd/cd make an annoying WIRRRRRRRR sound everytime I boot up my computer or have to play the game. Plus, I really love it when the dvd/cd gets all scratched up because I have to remove it and insert a DVD/CD to play another game! /smirk

My PC is a PC..not a GD console - so I opt to use a no-cd/no-dvd option unless I need to play the game online.
