Agreed. And they'll probably end up doing something retarded like giving the console people more health to make up for their deficiencies. It'd be nice to own console gamers a bit, but honestly I'd rather not have a group that probably makes the CS community look like decent human beings further turding up PC gaming.

Way to assume like a complete jackass that console gamers are incapable of keeping up, and are "turds". No wonder I stopped gaming with arrogant jackasses on the PC. "Oh I have a $400 video card, I'm 1337."

I'm not sure why you singled me out, virtually everyone else in the thread has said they would be screwed as well. I recommend getting over yourself.

And I've never spent more then $160 on a video card, nor did I say I was '1337'. I just envision a bunch of whining by the large console base, resulting in the developers inserting some sort of handicap to 'level the playing field'. Its bad enough all we get on the PC these days are sloppy console ports.

I can quote everyone else if it makes you happy :p I'm tired of people saying "oh KB + mouse pwns j00". There's more than FPS games on a console you know. To boot (for FPS games), I don't see that large of a differential b/t a KB+mouse vs a controller, having played Q2 for 4 years through HS/College, and then going console only. I've said that in every single KB+mouse pwns joo thread. If you think it's that big of a differential, stick to your KB+mouse then.

really its about time a "live like" service came to pc games.... one interface for online gaming (on your console and pc).

it will be very interesting to see how well its done.

there is a HUGE difference between a controller and kb/mouse. consoles are handicapped to make up for this (aimbot! even partial aimbot). regardless of how much q2 you played. precision? i realize when you have a helper you don't need to be as precise, or when you get all your health back by hiding in a corner (ala halo), but you can't deny being able to accurately spin with a mouse compared to a gamepad isn't a difference.

I've never really heard of console gamers claiming they have better skills than a PC/mouse/kb gamer.

Most console gamers, like myself, know a keyboard/mouse is better but couldn't care less. I'm not going to sit around in my living room with 4 of my buddies and break out a bunch of mice and keyboard stations. I'd rather just pick up a controller and play and don't really care about who is "owning" who.

Of course I played Quake for a good year or more before moving to kb+mouse (and even then it was that damn mouse2 as +forward style :)).

I honestly don't remember if it was this way from the start. But Quake1's auto aim only worked if sv_cheats was turned on. It was considered a cheat and regardless of your client side setting it wouldn't function if cheats were disabled.

Having played both games on a console and PC I feel I can comment on this one. Yes.. a kb+mouse player will have a significant advantage over a console gamer in FPS due to the control interface. Prime example is that I can spin a complete 180* and shoot someone behind me in a split second using kb+m. With a console you're limited to a set rotational speed and it would take you 1.5-2 seconds to turn around. Plenty of time for an experienced FPS player to kill you. I've never had to move and think as fast when playing Halo2 as I do playing UT2004.
Now... granted there are more than FPS games. A driving game for example would be a much more even playing field. Especially if both people had racing wheels. In RTS games again the advantage goes back to the kb+m player. You can set macros with your keyboard to execute complex sequences with a single key press. You can't do that with a console controller.
In short anywhere a mouse & keyboard would give you a quicker & more intuitive interface the console gamers will be at a disadvantage.

the difference between the two is that console players dont care about "being the pwner" or whatever you guys like to say. Most of you only play on your computer cause your still at moms house and can only play once she goes to bed.

Real men have jobs, big screen tvs and consoles to play while their girlfriends are sitting next to them watching whatever on the split screen. Good luck finding a girl to sit next to you on your freaking computer.

Will they release a keyboard and mouse for the 360? If not, I'm sure someone will develop a SmartJoy for the 360 to level the playing field.

Might have something to do with the fact that Halo isn't nearly the same pace as UT. They play very differently.

There are two real problems here, and I personally don't think either one has to do with the method for controlling the game (I'm a firm believer that if you're good, you'll be good regardless, and I just get sick of hearing people either whine about mouse and keyboard or other lame crap). The first problem is that almost always, either the PC or the console gets a crappy version of a game. The second is the fact that console players and PC players just don't seem to get along. Its almost like racism, where each side thinks they are superior and the opposite side is inferior.

Also, I'm not quite sure that Live will allow PC versus console players in normal games. I think they're just showing that you can see who's playing what regardless of what they're using. Sounds like you'll be able to view trailers and other content thats saved on your 360 on your PC or phone without having to copy it over. Unless they start embedding Live into PC games and making them run at some defacto settings that makes everything even to 360 players, I just don't see it happening, as it would be just too easy to manipulate and cheat on the PC side.

I agree...

which is why UT is such a huge franchise...I can definitely see console gamers own with the manta...it's just better to fly it with a controller than with keyboard. But, that's where avrils come in ;)

Heh, time to rape some console FPS players

That aside, I play both PC FPS and console FPS (Halo on XBC, Halo 2 on XBL) games, and its safe to say KB/mouse pwn controllers, even moreso now that I've been spoiled by my Logitech G7.

Don't really agree there. I think it comes down almost entirely to the controls. I'm not saying there are more skilled players in the PC or console realm, just that KB+M is faster and easier to control for FPS games. But you could take any "skilled" PC player, make him use a controller, and he will get owned by any "skilled" console player that has been using a controller for a long time. After a while though the PC player will adapt his FPS skills to the controller and begin to do well. But one group is not more skilled than the other. I agree with the rest of what you said though.

Unless we see a 360 kb/mouse, I think this is a bad idea.

Not that I'm against consoles, because I probably play my consoles more than I play PC games. Neither one is more fun than the other, but the control on a console is definitely at a disadvantage (in an FPS or RTS, at least).

I do see a great opportunity for controller makers to come up with a "gamepad" with customizable buttons and keys to help console gamers compete with PC gamers. Big $$$ here...

the purpose of LIVE is to bring gamers together, not set them apart. I hope it takes off because the more people play a certain game, the bigger the franchise becomes. I'm a HUGE supporter of the UT franchise and I hope we can play it with PC, MAC, xbox, PS3, and wii...all on the same network.
