Hi,
I've just built this PC, never had problems with other builds. But my pc freezes when I put a disk in the tray. It happens 50% of the time, the cd spins and then freezes/locks-up the pc. If the game has four disk to install it might freeze on the second or third disk. It varies from time to time. If the pc doesn't freeze after the initial spin everything is great, the install is fine or the game runs ok.

Also if a game is left in the tray when the pc boots up, it freezes/locks-up most of the time.

Then I have to hit the reset button.

I have tried a different cd player and still it freezes around 50% of the time. So it is not the Sony DVD drive.

This is the only time the pc freezes/locks-up.
Surfing the web, playing music, playing games, this pc is rock solid. I've installed the latest drivers and firmware for everything. I'm stumped???

Welcome to AT.

Do you have the jumpers set correctly on the CD drive?

Have you tried a different IDE cable?

Different power supply molex connector?

Hi, Welcome to the forums, and hope you get a successful result.......

Is the CD set to DMA in control panel?

Can you also look in event viewer and look for some X's and supply us with the SOURCE, EVENT ID, and any text that relates to the errors you are getting.

Again he asks, are there any CD read errors in the system log. there is only one way to find out, go look!

I was running XP Home with SP2, did a fresh install of XP Pro with SP1, no more problems. So I don't know what was the cause, bottom line is everything works now, thanks for a the responses.
