PC freezes randomly

I currently have a PC where the mouse and keyboard stop responding randomly everyday or every other day mostly. Where I have to restart the PC by clicking on the restart switch on the PC.

What could be the problem please ?

Where do I begin to test ?

First I'd ensure nothing's overheating. You say it's random, so I assume it's not associated with intensive work, though?

Next I'd check your drives. Run SMART tests.

Ensure your cables are fully plugged in. Drives, and power cables to everything. Also ensure your slotted components (RAM, GPU if you have one) are fully seated and pushed into their slots.

If that doesn't work, maybe a RAM test.

Ok one of my hard drives but it is a external hard drive says caution. Is this bad ?

It seems to work fine still.

Should I unplug it then see if my freezes of my keyboard and mouse stops ?

It just froze randomly a second ago and had to restart system by the button again. The only thing I had open was CrystalDiskInfo, Firefox, Thunderbird, AdGuard, AirVideo HD, SABnzbd, Goodsync, Cfos Speed, Malwarebytes Anti-Exploit, and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware.

Though I was using Goodsync doing a backup to my portable WD My Book hard drive with the picture of the Caution at top during the time.

Just used Goodsync again to sync manually and no freeze so far.

I think it's somewhat unlikely that a non-system drive would cause freezes; but it couldn't hurt to unplug it when not backing up.

Did you check the event viewer? See what the critical and error logs show.

Control panel - system and security - administration tools - and you should see a entry that states - view event logs

Click to open critical or error logs and double click on the entries; it will have a description of what happened. You can search online for more info too.

If you are not already using a hardware monitor, I suggest installing one. It is helpful to see how temps are doing, make certain fans are working, voltages are not dropping too low, etc. http://www.hwinfo.com/

The sensor tab will have all that info in this particular tool.

Weird I switched the USB port for my mouse and now the random freezing doesn't seem to be happening anymore.

It hasn't in a few days now. Time will tell if it is fixed.

I would suspect the external drive is the cause, and your mouse was affected because it was connected to the same USB root hub. Now that they aren't sharing the same hub the mouse is fine, so run Check Disk on the external drive.
