Hello all,

I'm lookin to build a PC from scratch which will be used SOLELY for audio recording, no internet or nething. My only requirement is that I have a $500 MAX and a DVD-RW. AMD processor pref. since they're cheaper than Pentiums. Don't worry about a monitor or software costs. Can anyone put something together for me? Dont worry bout super graphics cards... although something with dual-monitor option would be nice but NOT necessary. Also, don't factor in a soundcard either. I just need to actual PC components. PLEASE help me out.

Thanks in advance...

just about anything with a 3000+ cpu should do. main thing is lots of memory, like a gig or more, and a fast hd. maybe a 16 meg cache 7.2k drive.

edit: do you plan on doing real time fx? or loads of simultanous channel recording?

Real time FX is probably a good possibilty. I'd be recording 1 channel at a time....

Lets see.....Get a quality PSU - Enermax or Fortron or Antec on that kind of budget.
Find a Socket 939 motherboard with integrated video.
2x1gb Corsair Value select memory
Audigy2 for a good soundcard. Perhaps a Rapter HDD?
And whatever is left on case, CPU.

I'm going to be using a digital audio interface... so a layman's sound card wont be necessary. Windows won't be a problem either...

$76 1GB PC3200 RAM You'll want at least a gig if you're going to have a multitrack audio program running.
$76 Sempron 64 2800+ This will get to 2.4 GHz, slightly better than an Athlon 64 3300+.
$75 Epox EP-8KDA3J This board has excellent overclocking features.
$58 Western Digital Caviar SE 80GB SATA HDD A basic 80GB drive is fine, even for audio.
$44 NEC ND-3550A This is possibly the best burner on the market.
$34 dual-output video card This should be fine for DVD playback and standard graphics.
$33 300W PSU (Fortron Source) This is more than enough for a budget rig.
$27 case/PSU combo A case is a case. Sell the PSU on Ebay.
$11 any floppy drive
$10 any modem
TOTAL: $444

If you want to max out your budget, get another hard disk and run them in RAID 0.
